Bush is out of touch with GOP regarding illegal immigration
Townhall.com ^ | 4/10/2006 | Phyllis Schlaffly

Posted on 04/11/2006 7:52:33 AM PDT by NCSteve

Like many teenagers, President George W. Bush dashed off to Cancun for spring break. Protected by a long and impenetrable fence and plenty of security guards, he met privately with the Mexican president and wealthy chief executive officers from both countries.

Bush should have gone to the Arizona border where U.S. citizens really need a fence to protect themselves, their children, their animals and their property from the hundreds of illegal immigrants who tramp across their land every night.

Bush thus gave the back of his hand to the 88 percent of Republican House Members who voted to secure our borders against the invasion of criminals, smugglers of illegal drugs with their armed escorts, smugglers of thirsty humans in crowded vans, and Other Than Mexicans who obviously aren't coming here to pick strawberries.

Phyllis Schlafly has been a national leader of the conservative movement since the publication of her best-selling 1964 book, A Choice Not An Echo. She has been a leader of the pro-family movement since 1972, when she started her national volunteer organization now called Eagle Forum. In a ten-year battle, Mrs. Schlafly led the pro-family movement to victory over the principal legislative goal of the radical feminists, called the Equal Rights Amendment. An articulate and successful opponent of the radical feminist movement, she appears in debate on college campuses more frequently than any other conservative. She was named one of the 100 most important women of the 20th century by the Ladies' Home Journal.

Dear President Bush:

I'm about to plan a long trip with my family and extended family, and I would like you to assist me. I'm going to walk across the border from the U.S. into Mexico, and I need to make a few arrangements. I know you can help with this.

I plan to skip all the legal stuff like visas, passports, immigration quotas and laws. I'm hoping they handle those things the same way you and the Congress handle them here.

So, would you mind telling your buddy, President Vicente Fox, that I'm on my way over? Please let him know that I will be expecting the following:

1. Free medical care for my entire family.

2. English-speaking government bureaucrats for all services I might need, whether I use them or not.

3. All government forms need to be printed in English.

4. I want my kids to be taught by English-speaking teachers.

5 Schools need to include classes on American culture and history.

6. I want my kids to see the American flag flying at their school.

7. Please plan to feed my kids at school for both breakfast and lunch.

8. I will need a local Mexican driver's license so I can get easy access to government services.

9. I do not plan to have any car insurance, and I won't make any effort to learn local traffic laws.

10. In case one of the Mexican police officers does not get the memo from Pres. Fox to leave me alone, please be sure that all police officers speak English and that I've got rights as an 'illegal'.

11. I plan to fly the U.S. flag from my house top, put flag decals on my car, and have a gigantic celebration on July 4th. I do not want any complaints or negative comments from the locals.

12. I would also like to have a nice job without paying any taxes, and don't enforce any labor or tax laws.

13. Please tell all the people in the country to be extremely nice and never say a critical word about me, or about the strain I might place on the economy as I will consider such comments to be racist.

14. I don't expect to have myself or my family checked or vaccinated against any communicable diseases.

I know this is an easy request because you already do all these things for all the people who come to the U.S. from Mexico. I am sure that President Fox won't mind returning the favor if you ask him nicely.

However, if he gives you any trouble, just invite him to go quail hunting with your V.P.

Thank you so much for your kind help.

But I thought the GOP was out of touch with conservative voters on immigration? So wouldn't that put Bush in touch with conservative voters? [scratching head]

So then everybody's happy! Party!!

Last month, President Bush lost my support.

He defends:

(1) the borders of the White House,

(2) the borders of his ranch,

(3) the borders of Iraq, BUT,

(4) NOT the borders of the United States.

Yes, if a pollster were to ask, "Do you approve of President Bush's job performance?", the answer is now "NO".

Which GOP would that be, Phyllis? The one that controls the Senate, which just passed an amnensty bill on the arrogant assumption that its constituents are too stupid to realize that once amensty was granted the fence funding would be cut? The one who has refused for years to even fund an adequate border patrol-- that GOP?

I'd say Bush is very much in step with it.

George W. Bush, who will never again run for office, is selfishly destroying the Republican Party. He is molding the Republican Party into the Party of Big Business and Big Government.

President Bush has been great on most things except for our border.
He has been great on the war on terrorists.
But on the border he is a gross failure.
He acted fast and correct on the 3,000+ people murdered at the world trade center.
He ignores the many rapes, murders and robberies which might be larger than the murders and money loss at the world trade center.
More Americans are abducted on the border of Mexico than in Iraq!

President Bush said the Minutemen are vigilantes.
This is a despicable lie.
President Bush said that they were only doing jobs American will not do.
This is a despicable lie.
President Bush said family values do not stop at the border.
This is somewhat true but to make it completely true we will have to open houses of ill repute outside of every town and city.
This will make their "family values" not stop at the border.

The elite rule America their loyalty is to their bloodline or their little secret meeting groups and the movers and shakers of the new world order...

They pretend to be Americans...they go to private schools and attend the best colleges their parents money can get them into they are globalists and have homes and own property in various foreign nations...

America just happens to be the country they grew up in...but it is not in their hearts or in their souls...

They are not like the Founding Fathers that kinda stuff is for the rubes...what you pretend to believe in...like a play or a movie...you pretend..you act...the better actor you are the more you get...

Power is what is real...getting and keeping it the name of the game...if you are good at it...really good at it...you get to play with the real pros...

Where you get to fly off to their secret meetings and help move 'The' agenda forward...

Unfortunately, President Bush is not "out of touch." He is sticking by his principles. He is loyal to his friend, Pres. Fox, honestly worried about the Mexican people, and afraid of a complete collapse of order in Mexico sending waves of refugees into the US (like his not-an-amnesty won't...). He's also loyal to his "cheap labor" friends.

The fact that these run counter to the will of the American people won't stop him for a second. I believe he honestly thinks he is doing what is best for the country.

I don't agree, but there ya go. Whatever I don't like about his policies, I really admire Bush's courage and his ability to stick to his principles in the face of all opposition. Even when hundreds of thousands of invaders are showing their faces.

Mail this to all the elected "airheads" in Washington regardless of their Party affiliation. They need to get the message that there are millions of Americans who are sick and tired of their ineffective governing of this country. I opened the paper today and almost gagged at all the illegals demonstrating and making demands. Ship their butts back to their home country. People better wake up before it's too late. The silent majority can't afford to stay silent anymore or they will be losing their freedoms and their country. We've already been invaded!

Yep, he sticks to his beliefs. But, he is wrong and will face the consequences. I wonder what he will say next year at this time when he is under constant investigation and being impeached? by a democrat congress as they speed on their merry way to enacting socialsim, voter fraud, the fairness doctrine and a whole host of other goodies that will ensure they are never out of power again.

Yeah, that really shows courage to sit back and do nothing when hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens are marching in the streets and no one does anything about it. Yep, a lot of courage.

The only good thing about these marches are that Americans are starting to get alarmed...and armed.

he is definately scaring off the base the shame of it all is we will take it out in 2006 on the house reps. that did their job

Bush is in touch with something else - REALITY. The Congress has proved that no reasonable form of immigration/border reform will happen, yet folks seem to be missing it. The same Dims who were railing at the Prez for not controlling the borders a few months ago are now foaming at the mouth about his "draconian" plans. Many Repubs in the Congress are so concerned with getting reelected that they won't do anything to help the Prez. If you want to see some of the truth, look at some of the signs in the "rallies" - many denounce Bush, which indicates that, while he may not go as far as most would have him go, he obviously wants more control than the other options out there.

So, if the Congress gets slapped down in 2006, it's their own darn fault for NOT doing their job. The real shame is all the folks blaming the Prez for not imposing real heavy control, when the Congress won't even allow light control.

No need to spend money to deport them - if their jobs dry up, they will go home. And they will pay their own way!

We need to enforce the laws ALREADY on the books. Fine the companies that employ illegals, and imprison the CEOs.

It wouldn't be easy, but it could be done. What we should do though is forcibly deport the worst five per cent, the ones committing crimes or doing nothing but soaking up social services. Next enforce the law on employers, and end the free services. Make it difficult, pull out the red carpet and almost all of them would return on their own.

Also put pressure on Mexico to clean up that racist and corrupt cess pool of a country, so people will either return or stay put.

Whatever I don't like about his policies, I really admire Bush's courage and his ability to stick to his principles in the face of all opposition.

I guess it is just too bad for us (and our children) that one of Bush's principles does not include a belief in a "republican" form of government that is guaranteed to us by our constitution. The foundation of "republican" government is that the will of the people is supposed to prevail. This is called self-government and it is the central accomplishment of the American Revolution. It is clear that President Bush defers not one whit to the wishes of the overwhelming majority of citizens to control our borders and neither does he feel any reponsibility under his oath of office to "faithfully" execute the decades old democratically enacted laws against illegal immigration. I certainly do not admire him for this.

President Bush, along with his globalist fellow travelers in both political parties, business and the media, are well along the way to eliminating the need for citizens and for self-government altogether. A self-governing society of citizens needs the nation state and borders in order to function. A globalized world organized to promote international trade and markets does not need self-governing citizens or nations, only passive consumers and docile taxpayers. President Bush, with his continual attempts to force amnesty policies on an unwilling population and his inexcusable refusal to enforce our laws against illegal immigration is busily about the project of destroying our self-governing republic. It is no accident that the only thing he asked citizens do after 9-11 was to go shopping!

This immigration debate demonstrates the degree to which our political and other elites no longer believe in self-government. As Benjamin Franklin warned us, it is always up to the people to preserve their republican form of government. I hope we are up to the task.
