Hef's a sad creature these days.

Hefner should also help women who were lured into the sex industry and exploited—including those “Playboy Bunnies” he made famous, so many of whose lives ended tragically.

What strikes me about this situation is how many of these women think Playboy will be their big break. They should ask themselves how big Hef's fortune is and how many former Playboy bunnies ride around in limos.

While riding in their cars, children are treated to the sight of X-rated films on the DVD screens of cars in the next lane.
There are some good points in the article but the above statement is way over the top. Theoretically possible but highly unlikely.

Hef's a sad creature these days.

If I'm only half as sad as he is at 80, I'll be happy.

I know the porn heads will be here shortly to attack Chuck, you and everyone else who does not share their view of their patron saint.

But, America would not be awash in porn were it not for the overwhelming demand.

I have a better statistic - apparently the pornographic film industry now makes more money than Hollywood.

That was simply not the case before Hefner came onto the scene.

We were at the LONG BEACH GRAND PRIX Sunday and Hefner was there celebrating his 80th birthday. We didn't see him. We did see Paul Newman though!

So, Hef is responsible for all the porn, then? I don't see it. There has been pornography since there has been civilization. There was porn before Hef, too, however old he is.

Further, classifying Playboy's airbrushed naked women as pornography seems to me to trivialize true pornography, which is explicitly sexual.

Colson has gone off the deep end, here, in my opinion.

Is Hugh Hefner someone to be admired? Probably not. Is he responsible for the growth of pornography in this country? Not really. So, what is responsible for pornography? Human nature, I suppose.

Sounds like Hef and bjclinton have much in common, both are searching for a respectable legacy.

If the guy did not have oodles of money made from promoting porn" how many of those "girlfriends" would be hanging onto this pervert?

"There’s no longer any doubt that the pornification of America has led to a huge increase in crime against women and children, crime committed by those who consume porn that teaches that women want to be raped and degraded. "

Ummmm--can you point to any statistics that back this up???

Violent crime, including rape, has decreased over the prior 20 years. Teen pregnancy rates are down over the past 20 years.

Statistics actually refute your main argument, that porn has led to increased violence against women. One could very persuasively argue that porn (or some other factor) has lessened crime against women. Not that I think porn is great or whatever---but one must look at reality, and the reality of present day America is that crime has been declining.

Is there any solid evidence for this?

Any at all?

The fact is Hugh Hefner did more than anyone else to turn America into a great pornographic wasteland.

Let's all raise a glass to Mr. Hugh Hefner.

I'd say that Chuck has it pretty well covered as far as Hefner's impact on the world.

Hefner wants to be loved by people and I guess he seduces enough of us for sex, conversation, or adulation. He gives big parties as we all know.

But lets face it he's left a lot of wreckage behind in the last 50 or so years that's not pretty and not as hyped up as he is.

American males could not avail themselves of hundreds of millions of obscene films every year -- as they do now.

These films must be extremely short if one can avail oneself of "hundreds of millions" of them each year.
