I already read it at Dan Simmons' site. This little tract scares me more than any Stephen King novel could ever manage.

I give you an Asian world in chaos, a Pacific rim ruled by China after the vacuum of Americas withdrawal this nations full resources devoted to fighting, and possibly losing, the Century War a South America and Mexico lost to corruption and appeasement, a resurgent Russian Empire that has reclaimed its old dominated republics and more, and a Canada split into three hateful nations. Seems I have read this before and that pic above looks familiar too.....:o)

He makes good points about the importance of knowing history, and about the "war on terrorism" being like a "war on aviation".
But our enemy is not all of Islam, but a small part of it.
That small part would like nothing better than to make this a war on all of Islam. So they agitate Muslims against us, and us against Muslims.
Fortunately, our current leaders are too smart to fall for that.

He describes the future I think we must nuke Mecca to avoid. They must submit to us or we will be forced to submit to them. Have we enough confidence in the goodness of our civilizaton that we are willing to make the hard decisions necessary to continue it? Or shall we default our posterity to the hell-on-earth that will be life under the sword of the Global Caliphate?

WOW. Un-effin-believable. This guy has encapsulated, with sobering detail and a great deal of historical reflection, upon the very fears I have harbored for a number of years.
Strictly from a literary point of view, the style reminds me of some of 1950s Isaac Asimov.
About "the last three words" .... has anyone figured them out? Should it be apparent from the story context what they are? Granted, I haven't had my caffeine yet today -- I'll definitely re-read this later.

Powerful stuff.Very powerful, and very chilling, and I thank you for posting it.
I have been psuedo-blogging, for years, a couple of the elements in WWIV ( III being the Cold War ), in which we find ourselves engaged.
The first element?
Islam, a Religion of Peace®? ( links, blogs, quips, quotes, aggravating pictures ) is located here- click the Pic, and scroll backwards:

The other, somewhat interlocking element is this one:
"Thunder on the Border," click the picture:

He says it correctly. It is a war on religion. It is not the governments of Arabia and Africa and Southeast Asia that urge conversion or destruction of non-believers.
It is Islam itself. Convert or die. That is the fundamental tenet of Islam.
We better wake up.

A load od complete the sky is falling.
Sorry but you print a sky is falling thread as if its the truth and then starting posting replies we have no choice they are going to win we must nuke them.
Does any one on this site apart from a few ex military actually know what and how we are fighting. What Islamic groups there are how they are linked there weaknesses and strengths, apart from New York, Madrid and London how many real strikes have they made that has brought them any closer to the collapse of Western Civilization
All this erabai rubbish.
The Western European country with the biggest Muslim majority is France with a wopping 9%.
Britain with the Capitol city cheerfully labeled Londinstan has a Total population: 58.8 million and a Muslim population: 1.6 million (2.8%) .
The Arab nations are divided there leadership can only keep power by force of repression, look at Iraq where they fight each other. Look at Iran they spend as much on security repression as they do on there defense.
Someone pleases explain to me how they get to take over the world unless we eradicate the Islamic population.

This is effective to illustrate the dangers in the future, but it does not address the argument that we are having today about how to address it.
The argument is that currently we are trying to usher them into the 21st century by way of Democracy and many think that to be a waste of time.
The counter argument is to kill them all.
I don't think it is anyone but the isolationist's and anti-globalist's, together with the pansy-asses, who advocate retreat and cover policy and nobody is taking them seriously anyway.
But I enjoyed the piece! It reflects the reality of a very sick religion that needs reform.

The Time Traveler laughed a final time. All of your grandsons names were on lists. You wrote something . . . will soon write something . . . that will put your name, and all your descendents names, on their list. Including your only surviving grandson.
This is another part of the essay about which I've been thinking. Is the author referring to this very "Message from a Time Traveler" as the piece which the author-in-the-story "will soon write"? In essence, saying, 'It's already too late'???
