Kosovo Albanian Arrest For Bomb Attacks

PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP)--Police Monday arrested an ethnic Albanian suspected of being responsible for a string of explosions targeting the U.N. and other key buildings in the province.

The 38-year-old man was arrested in a dawn operation in Kosovo's capital Pristina on suspicion of carrying out the attacks last July, a police statement said.

One of the blasts targeted the U.N. mission headquarters in Pristina. At least three U.N. vehicles were set ablaze in the compound's parking lot, and several shops were damaged in three nearly simultaneous explosions.

The second blast occurred near the building of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, about 100 meters from the U.N. compound. The third blast slightly damaged Kosovo's government building, which also houses the province's parliament.

A fourth explosive device was found near the offices of the province's public television, but it didn't explode.

Police didn't provide any further details on the arrest.

Kosovo has been administered by the U.N. and patrolled by North Atlantic Treaty Organization-led peacekeepers since 1999, when an alliance air war halted Serb forces crackdown on separatist ethnic Albanians fighting for independence.

U.N.-mediated talks are being held in order to determine whether the province gains full independence, as its ethnic Albanian majority population demands, or remains part of Serbia.

I really wonder what Albanian extremist group this dude belongs to. Their are a number of them other than the UCK for example the LKCK which is about as extreme as you can go in Kosovo. The party is really starting to be over and the greatfull Albanians will of course desire NATO and UNMIK out, their usefulness is now getting in the way. The bombings in Pristina are but a ripple of this sentiment....

Wraith, it remains to be seen, the KLA is itching to secure its "business" routes by attempting to be internationally recognized. The first internationally sanctioned criminal State.

Business has always been the priority. Should Kosovo become independent, consider twice the flow of heroin into Europe and the world. As you said Monty a sanctioned criminal drug cartel that will leech further into the Balkans. The Albanian mob is bad now what will it be later? This mess will bit every western country on the ass and it will take some politicians kid to die from UCK heroin that originated from Afghanistan before the real threat will be realized. Another weapon of the terrorists against the west......
