NASA announced yesterday that it was resurrecting Dawn, a spacecraft that will visit two of the solar system's largest asteroids, less than a month after killing the mission.
"I'm astonished," said Lucy-Ann McFadden, an astronomer at the University of Maryland and a member of the mission's science team. "I'm excited. I'm ready to go. I was still in denial that we got canceled."

My guess is someone didn't really investigate the mission before cancelling -- the payload was 98% done from what I've heard and they just needed a bit more to finish I&T. Plus, it would cost $10 million to stand down, vs. $40 million to launch...
Cool, IMHO Ceres could become a hub for mining the asteroid belt.
