Hmm..a nation without taxes. Well, so much for the military. And all those SF places you hear about? Coronado Beach? Fort Bragg? Gone..
Nothing other than offering to lower our taxes if we'd start paying again.
Yeah, the issue of "can you afford to do it?" would be a good question. The concept of taking a page out of the adversary's playbook is intriguing if it could be done without yourself becoming just another public burden. Alternately, it could be done on a "rotating drop-out" basis.
A Taxreform bump for you all.
If anyone would like to be added to this ping list let me know.
John Linder in the House(HR25) & Saxby Chambliss Senate(S25) offer a comprehensive bill to kill all income and SS/Medicare payroll taxes outright and replace them with with a national retail sales tax administered by the states.
H.R.25,S.25
A bill to promote freedom, fairness, and economic opportunity by repealing the income tax and other taxes, abolishing the Internal Revenue Service, and enacting a national retail sales tax to be administered primarily by the States.Refer for additional information:
I sent $23K and change to the governments (state and local) from my income alone (not including sales) last year. I am still calculating what the government spent on me. If someone were to say $15K went to the war effort, "Mr. citizen, your money purchased a replacement tank tread on an M1 tank. The remainder went to pay for federal highways, the printing of currency and to pay the salaries of your civil servants," I might be inclined to be proud of the money I spent. I know better and instead I would guess that 40% of my money was wasted on programs and research that I would not have approved.
I would like at least our federal government to send me one additional huge form next year for me to work on. I would like them to send me a copy of the 2006 budget with a column down the side so that I may pick and choose the percentage I want my tax dollars to fund. If just 50% of the country took the time to do this, the government would quickly see just where the American people want the government to spend money.
Back when Evita Clinton was working on her health care plan, word was sent out that fully 25% of America's doctors could afford to retire if she started up that socialized crap.
That, among other things, caused the subject to be dropped.
This economy runs on people like you and me buying stuff we don't really need. If a significant percentage started really cutting back on spending and reduce work hours also, I think it would have an effect.
From the article,"Well, Mr. Snerdley is yelling that they will get me. I will sacrifice myself for the good of the cause. "
That is 'talking the talk.' The true test is 'walking the walk.'
Maybe the Illegals have it right, work for cash, no taxes withheld...
I agree, the encouraging news is that Rush is talking more about Tax Reform.
Boortz has always said if the "Godfather"(Rush) got behind the Fair Tax it might have a chance to get implemented.
Rush's forte is verbal persuasion. Making himself a martyr would not be persuasive. ;-)
Does this mean that Rush has gotten on board with the flat tax?
fair tax bump
Makes me feel kinda warm and fuzzy at the thought of real freedom...
I'd work for free for a month or more. My employer would not be hurt and there would be nothing from which to withhold.
Bump
Actually, it wouldn't take 40 or 50 million. If just the members of Free Republic did it it would cripple the IRS.
