Everyone here that calls themselves a Conservative and backs this b.s. are lying about what they are.
Every nation on this earth is composed of immigrants. That is a straw man argument. What this argument is about is the "rule of law". Our Representatives SWEAR to uphold the laws. Either we are a NATION UNDER the RULE OF LAW, or we are not.
Illegal immigrants and their demands on this country's society is outrageous and you in Government are to represent THIS nations citizens, NOT MEXICO's.

:he's partially right. immigrants are not a threat to identity. ILLEGAL immigrants are the threat. immigrants come over and are willing to conform to american ways. ILLEGAL immigrants come over to leach off the system and demand it comform to them"
A lot of us would call his statement Classic "Clinton" parsing of words.

"Bush: Immigrants Are Not a Threat"
To who, Mr President?
To you in your insular palace, or to the constituents whom you are supposed to be representing, and whose interests you are supposed to be serving.
That is OUR choice to make NOT yours.

We can't even control a major U.S. city (LA)...much less a border

Montana GOP needs to tell GWB to shut his yap about illegal immigrants, or they can expect my vote to go elsewhere.

What percentage of the fruit/vegatable price is the wages paid for picking? If they think an increase in wages for the picking process will eliminate food production in the US they are stupid beyond belief.
Remember too your freshman economics - the labor capital tradeoff. Don't back off of your position so easily.

"A true statement would be "fill the jobs that Americans are unwilling to do at the wages currently being offered.""
This is so true. This country's workforce is being undercut at every turn.

"What was it President Reagan used to say?: "A country that cannot defend its borders is not a country."
Was that before or after President Reagan granted Amnesty to 1.5 million illegals?

I agree with you about perception, though I was not against the ports deal. My main problem are first that having such porous boarders leaves us open to terrorism and secondly the inability or the unwillingness of these people to assimilate. Some cities in my area literally have no English signs everything is in Spanish.

Don't think that staying home is the only option.
It could end up being 1994 all over, where instead of staying home,
BUMS got thrown out on their Ares.

I can only hope that the extreme leftist, anti-US Presidential candidate, Andres Obrador, whose campaign sounds like that of Hugo Chavez is elected this summer. Maybe then this president and the republicans will wake up.

As the seasons differ, the markets do not compete for fresh fruits and vegetables. But not all competeing growers are located in the southern hemisphere. And aren't many fruits and vegetables now grown in hothouses, to satisfy the demand year-round? I'm not arguing with you, just asking.
I'm sorry I don't remember who the posters were in that other thread. There were a couple of fruit-growers who were making very strong cases for the danger to their livelihoods caused by growers in other countries. I don't think I have a command of all the facts.

We are already paying the highest prices we've ever had under this administration, Why not pay ,ore for produce?

Right George.
Immigrant are NOT a threat.
But immigrants, George, come into a country in compliance with that country's immigration laws.
What people are upset about is not immigrants, but illegal invaders, border-jumpers, undocumented aliens, etc.
Unless you initiate a discussion with correct terminology, you can't have an intelligent conversation.
Bush's obstinacy and intransigence on illegal invaders will destroy any positive impact of his term, ruin our chances to hold on to Congress in the mid-terms, threaten him with impeachment in the next congressional session, and torpedo our chances of holding onto the White House in 2008.
Isn't there ANYBODY home in Washington who can make Bush see logic on this issue?? We did it with Harriet Miers. Why can't we succeed with his "guest worker"
(= exploited, illegal, foreign invader) program.

With his job approval rating at the lowest of his presidency, Bush faces a new test of his political strength on the divisive immigration issue. And, like the Dubai debacle, he's going to leap head first into certain defeat. For as great as President Bush is at smacking down terrorists, it pains me to watch him blunder over and over again on domestic issues. One the GWOT becomes more of a back burner deal, these stubborn banzai charges are going to hand the government back over to the Democrats in short order.

A true statement would be "fill the jobs that Americans are unwilling to do at the wages currently being offered to a seemingly unlimited number of illegal immigrants."
Just wanted to refine the statement a little.
To: zook
I'm with you.
You know, the best way to defeat this problem is TO COMPETE with it and WIN. Worker harder, faster, better...and yes, sometimes even cheaper.
Everyone is so afraid of their job being taken away, or their "quality of life." If we are not careful we are going to start sounding and behaving like the whiny, socialistic FRENCH who believe themselves to be so wonderful and therefore ENTITLED.
I'm not afraid of ANYONE taking my job, unless I am not doing it well enough. If I'm outsourced or cease to be relevant... I can survey the playing field, adjust my strategy and change to meet the needs of those around me. And meet those needs better, faster, and yes, sometimes even cheaper than anyone else.
It's called Capitalism dammit.
