I am sick of this, and will opt out the next election.

If a competetive, market wage is offered, all kind of college students, high school students, people moving off of Welfare, etc. will take those jobs.

There was an interesting thread a few days ago about fruit growers who are hiring illegals because they're the cheapest labor. When I said the same thing you did above, about six people pointed out that paying higher wages will drive up the price of his crops (which I knew and don't object to), leading the country's wholesalers to start buying cheaper produce from overseas. That hadn't occurred to me.

I'm against tariffs, so what's the solution? Start buying our food overseas? Accept that growing fruits and vegetables is going to disappear from America? I'd be interested to know what you think about this.

Or the ones who will soon be funded by Castro and Chavez to foment violence in California.

Regarding immigration and spending, the left is right: Bush is an idiot.

Bush is whistling past the graveyard on this, and it ain't gonna work. Positive reinforcement by the admin. in the way of calling them 'neighbors' not criminals, for heavens sake, will embolden them. They're already demanding US rights, privileges, and the land, itself. US citizens should get the h..ll out, according to that mob with the Mexican flags yesterday. How long before they decide a nice Watts type riot is in order..until they get what they want. They'll burn down LA. Wait and see.

I cannot understand why the President will not admit that illegal aliens are hurting this country. It is beyond me how Bush and others will not step up and speak the truth. Just because the Hispanic vote is on the rise we have to cover our eyes and ears and pretend everything is A-OK? I used to totally support Bush and think he was for the American people but this stinks of only doing what business wants just like the Dems used to claim the Republicans did.I hope all the marches of the criminals this past week were a real eye opener for the average American.Could anyone imagine 50,000 Americans marching in Mexico City demanding the Mexican Government give them stuff?

There go the election hopes of ANY Republican who does not strongly repudiate this policy. They ain't going to get votes from Democrats, and many of the regular GOP voters are either going to vote 3rd party or sit it out.

No one should pretend that immigrants are a threat to American identity

There's no one I know who thinks immigrants in general are a threat.

Is Bush now forgetting the difference between legals and illegals? Sorry, I meant to say "document-challenged immigrants." I'm so insensitive.

Of course 500,000 mexicans marching in LA are not a threat now. Only when they don't get their way.
And of course The Administration said arabs running our ports were not a threat either.
This administration is on the verge of total collapse.

When the next Bush Approval poll numbers come out and he is at 30% it will be a direct result of this wussy-footed pandering.

Unreal. How is this Mr. Bush? I would answer "disapprove" if polled this evening.

Both the left and the right agree that immigrants are morally superior to native born Americans, and here Bush is saying and agreeing with the radical left that America is "racist."

"The immigration debate should be conducted in a civil and dignified way"

Wasn't it Bush who did not conduct a "civil debate" when he called those brave minutemen "vigilantes" about a year ago?

Oh I beg to differ, Bush isn't sitting on his butt doing nothing. He's openly advocating the invasion of the United States by Mexico. He is taking orders from Vicente Fox who has ordered Bush to allow his Mexican foreign invaders safe passage into the US.

I think Americans' perception of President Bush's inability to see the threat of illegal migrants caused millions of us to distrust his perception of the ports deal. If he had authorized and enforced the closing of our borders to illegals, many more people, right or wrong, would have been willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on the ports deal.

As the seasons differ, the markets do not compete for fresh fruits and vegetables.

``No one should play on people's fears or try to pit neighbors against each other,'' he said. ``No one should pretend that immigrants are a threat to American identity, because immigrants have shaped America's identity.''

I haven’t heard much of people being against immigration, but against Illegal immigration. There is a difference.
