For the most part, I suspect the kids see this less as a protest and more as a fun way to miss school and hang out with their friends. Exactly. I often staged such protests in high school. My friends and I would usually march on the mall and play video games.

"Similar school walkouts were held around the state Friday and were followed by a rally at Los Angeles City Hall that drew an estimated 500,000 people one of the largest demonstrations ever held in the city."
After a view of the half million march broadcast on the Internet and everywhere else, I kept thinking we may have missed an opportunity here. Can you imagine 500,000 gringos protesting in Mexico City demanding rights, health care and waving American flags?
crickets chirping......

Rush just asked who was involved in putting all these folks in the streets?Very well-organized. Someone here on Free Republic correctly wrote:
"Bad move by the Mexican Rights folks. They just steeled the resolve of many Americans and scared the hell out of the apathetic."
No truer statement has been written. Seeing it in the classroom today.

I agree totally. You have to contact your representatives about this. Congress is beholden to the electorate - not the illegals. If the support for the bill is luke-warm and the opposition screams louder, we are going to end up with a completely meaningless piece of "feel-good" legislation.

It simply reinforces the criticality of passing effective legislation (if we pass anything at all) and to also rigidly enforce the laws currently on the books.
In portions of this country, we are literally on the precipice of 'civil' war and mayhem as the crowds this week-end showed so well.
