Specter: One hour for lunch.
[Don't want a Senator to miss a meal or forego a recess or holiday, do we.]
Will whatever bill makes it out of the Senate still have to go through the House?
The GOP is split. The business community, including some large political donors, want the continuing flow of cheap labor. Some GOP pols with large hispanic populations are also concerned about the political consequences, especially as we head into the mid-terms.
Nothing substantive will come from all of this. It will be all window-dressing. They will throw some money at it for more border patrol guards, equipment, etc and easing restrictions on moving between Mexico and the US. Most illegals won't participate in a guest worker program. Any hint of amenesty or something like it will increase the flow.
Durbin's amendment passes.
Kyl's amendment fails.
Feinstein's amendment passes.
[Sounds like the Dems has taken control of this committee meeting/issue.]

Feinstein: "marWHUANA"
lol.
Diane Feinstein is going senile... she speaks so slowly AND FROM A SCRIPT!
This is a blather fest. All these Senators are multi-millionaires and are going to sell us out. Our only hope is the House. Di Fi's husband is worth at least 100 million from doing business in China
I was just thinking. If we build a wall and make being here illegally a felony, what would you do if you were here illegally? You would have to get back home before; 1) you became a felon, 2)thousands of "Americans willing to do the job" construction workers started building said wall I would think.
I would presume being arrested as a felon illegal would be punishable by deportation?
First they came for the gardening jobs
and I did not speak out
because I was not a gardener.
Then they came for the construction jobs
and I did not speak out
because I was not in construction.
Then they came for the computer jobs
and I did not speak out
because I was not a computer programmer.
Then they came for my job
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.
paraphrased from
Pastor Martin Niemöller
this is a joke
Amendments are being passed subjected to changes to be discussed later
I sure hope the republicans and their staff are paying attention
What Feinstein is proposing about ag workers sounds as convoluted as the prescription drug plan.
If you work 100 days but no more than 110 days but less than 105 days, you might qualify for a green card, provided you pay a fine of $500, unless you have been in the country 2 years or less, except those who have in the country more than 110 days but less than 150 days and have worked a minimum of 105 days but no more than 108 days, and do not have a blue card.......
I hope shots of all these "immigrants" waving MEXICAN flags is an eye-opener for the average Joe.
These are not Americans demonstrating.
Sen. Kyl: Illegals don't have to go home for 5 years. Then they will.
[Reality check, Senator! Why would they go back in 5 years, when Congress can't even get them out now?????]
Specter is going to keep them in session until they get a bill out.
He wants to get his bill ahead of the Frist bill, maybe.
The Sensenbrenner bill in the House may be the best of the 3, however.
DiFi is whining that she may have to stay late.
Maybe DiFi has a hot date.

The only reasonable outcome should be that phase 1 of any legislation produces effective barriers to entry along our borders. I will not support in any way, shape or form any critter that does not act to this end and NOW.
The rest is all bravo sierra. The critters took an oath and they are in breach if they do anything else other than secure this nation. We're in a World Wide, asymmetrical War for crying out loud, on top of the disintegration of what's left of this Constitutional Republic.
I don't buy into Bush's "jobs Americans will not do" garbage any more than I believe his "islam is a religion of peace" spewtum.
Let's offer to buy Mexico and carve it up into several new States, like the Louisiana Purchase.
