He's Dead, Jim

Rep. Curt Weldon, who broke the Able Danger story last year revealing that military intelligence had identified lead hijacker Mohammed Atta as a terrorist threat before the 9/11 attacks, now says that Osama bin Laden has died.

Weldon made the stunning claim during an interview Wednesday with the Philadelphia Inquirer, which reported: "Weldon is making explosive new allegations. He says a high-level source has told him that terrorist leader Osama bin Laden has died in Iran, where he has been in hiding." Weldon cited as his source an Iranian exile code-named Ali, telling the paper: "Ali's told me that Osama bin Laden is dead.

Michael Ledeen:

"And, according to Iranians I trust, Osama bin Laden finally departed this world in mid-December. The al Qaeda leader died of kidney failure and was buried in Iran, where he had spent most of his time since the destruction of al Qaeda in Afghanistan. The Iranians who reported this note that this year's message in conjunction with the Muslim Haj came from his number two, Ayman al-Zawahiri, for the first time."

I know, it sounds good. and if he were in an isolated building, I am sure we would take it out.

but imagine that he is in some area where buildings are closely spaced - and we bombed some city in Pakistan, and didn't get him. that's the risk here.

UBL isn't moving more then once or twice a year (probably weather related). He's hunkered down and very few likely know his whereabouts. To be in a larger Pak city would surprise me. If the dime is ever dropped on him, he'll have no plan B to escape by sitting within a city. If he stays in the border regions, he'll always have a plan B,C and probably D. Plus much easier to follow the comings and goings of those within the border regions. From a security standpoint on his side.

al-Qeada has placed him as the strategic head (understandably). While Zawahiri has assumed the role of tactical leader trying to keep the fight up within Stan and throughout the Pak border region. He is moving quite regularly. Traveling back and forth throughout the Pak border regions.

Zawahiri is keeping contacts and friendships up with the Jalaluddin Haqqani & Gulbuddin Hekmatyar of the world.

Think they saw him with satellites? They spotted Terry Anderson that way back in the 80s.

Weldon and Ledeen are using the same "ali" source that has been Mansor "impeccable" source for 3 years - Who for being "impeccable" is more often wrong then about anyone I know who makes predictions for a living.

UBL is very much alive. Just as is Zawahiri, Mullah Omar, Jalaluddin Haqqani, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and several other HVTs we are hunting in the border regions.

Hekmatyar has strong ties to Iran......but not UBL. UBL has never put himself at the mercy of a centralized Gov't (which Iran certainly is)....nor does Iran offer anymore security then does the Pak border regions. In fact, it offerers less. UBL is a merely a pawn in Iran.

Good post. Which without question holds a ton of truth. With that said, I still don't believe many Pukhtoons actually know UBL is among them (in a specific location that is).

Loyalty and all, eventually someone would drop the dime on him.....he'll compensate / adjust for that.

Bin Laden is living a hellish life. No matter how careful he is, he knows there is a real possibility that someone will drop a dime on him or that CIA and special tactical forces from the US will be busting down his door in the middle of the night or slipping a hellfire missile through a window and into his bedroom.

"There seems to have been changes made and Bin Laden is now in a position where he has the capability to be in communications with people anywhere in the world," an intelligence source said.

So when is his next streaming video or pod-cast? Methinks he is dead and this is a ruse to flush out his followers awaiting further instructions about the Jihad.

No doubt. I look at Google Earth, and can see almost everything. Imagine what American security and military services have.

I would think they have identified nearly everyone in all of those villages along the border. I would imagine that they can tell you who goes where to work and at what times and on what days.

UBL doesn't have any severe kidney disease...that is an old myth debunked long ago by OGAs within several Countries.

UBL is most likely may be afflicted with Marfan syndrome, a disease that attacks the connective tissues and is commonly found in very thin tall people. (Abraham Lincoln probably suffered from the syndrome.)
