What the Taliban and Hekmatyar have done can't be undone quickly. We can get rid of the influence of Islamist radicals, but it won't be quick. I fear it'll take time.

the difference is that your little story is a joke - what's happening in the rest of the world to Christians is real. not even close to moral equivalency.

Under Afghanistan's new constitution, minority religious rights are protected but Muslims are still subject to strict Islamic laws.

And what MacArthur-wannabe-genius let that part through, after we CONQUERED and OCCUPIED the country?

Yeah, what a waste of time dealing with Afghanistan. Like geez, what on earth did Osama bin Laden, Al-Qaeda and the Taliban do to deserve that? I mean, the war started in October 2001. There was absolutely no justification for it. It isn't as if they were responsible for murdering thousands of US citizens. Naw.

It was a nation full of fundamentalist camel-humpers. You can shuffle them around a bit, but you aren't going to change the fact that it is still mostly fundamentalist camel-humpers. Would it be nice if there was freedom and prosperity in Afghanistan? Yeah. Is this an outrage that a Christian is being persecuted in a nation we helped? Yes, and Afghanistan's actions here should not be without consequences.

But don't let the revisionists make you forget about the real reason we went there. It wasn't to bring them starbucks. It was payback and risk management.

Letterman had a joke a while back : the new president of Afghanistan had to catch a cab to a meeting. Driving the cab? the former president of Afghanistan.

LOL! I love that story.

The worse fight I ever saw my parents have (and they had plenty) was when they disagreed over the bible statement "my father's house has many mansions". Oh my goodness, they were giving each other the "who the heck are you? you're not the person I married!" look.

was certainly worth the sacrifice to replace the Taliban with the good guys. We need to stay the course to create more democratic miracles like this.

We replaced the awful with the plain lousy. No "democratic miracle" happened there or is likely ever to happen there. Afghanistan is a stone-aged society. The best we can hope for is to keep the Taliban and Al Qaeda from running the place again.

Yes, and Bush is supporting this same religion in "democratic" Afghanistan.

Actually this is the acid test, like a gang or a religion.
Love and Free to convert = religion
Hate and death if you quit = gang

"An Afghan man who recently admitted he converted to Christianity faces the death penalty under the country's strict Islamic legal system"

With all this recent media yabbering about religious tolerance you would expect the MSM to be all on top of this one /sarcasm.

Executing a person for his religious beliefs seems a bit more serious than a cartoon.

And you would expect the usual pro-war crusaders against Islamo-fascism (who got so excited over some cartoons) to be all over this. But they have paid little attention to this story thus far. Perhaps some pro-war freepers have a double standard which exempts from criticism our islamo-fascist "friends" who rule "democratic" Afghanistan and wrote its "democratic" constitution.

This sucks.

First impression would be that we should withdraw support for any regime that would allow such activity to occur, but then we know how screwed up it could get if we just washed our hands of the situation and withdrew. On the other hand, the notion of having left the old Taliban Regime in control is most definitely unacceptable.

The world is so damned screwed up. Neutron Bombs are looking better and better.

The strategy must focus on the enemy. The enemy of life is evil. However much all muslims are certainly not evil, islam is itself built on a foundation of rage. Islam is evil.

As long as this war is directed against something other than islam...islam will continue to grow and spread (by violence and extortion). All evil is greater than islam, but islam is pure evil.

We replaced the awful with the plain lousy.

Not unlike when Democrats are replaced by Republicans.

No "democratic miracle" happened there or is likely ever to happen there

Where Islam dominates, winning "hearts and minds" is an impossibility. Our successful efforts at nation-building (Japan/Germany) after WW2 led many to believe that it can work anywhere. Not so. ....as Americans are (finally) beginning to figure out.
