Newt has way too much baggage to ever get the nomination, let alone win the GE.

He is tailor-made to be a special assistant, a consigliere. Who were the last Presidents with earned PhDs? Woodrow Wilson had one. Did Hoover?

On the other hand, he'd be a bit less likely than any other prospect to turn into a massive spender the moment he hits the office.

His brand of unalloyed conservatism and partisan overreaching repulsed the country old media , and voters responded with the worst electoral drubbing any opposition party had received since Johnson walloped Goldwater in 1964. Gingrich resigned a few days later.

Now correct.

Me to... unless they run Fred Thompson. I can't think of anyone the right has talked about that can win.

If he could keep it even close up until the debates, he would clean house. He is smart, articulate, quick on his feet and has good political skills and I don't see anyone touching him in the debates. That's a big part of the presidential campaign now.

"Newt has way too much baggage to ever get the nomination, let alone win the GE."

I humbly disagree. I believe that most of us conservatives want a true republican conservative to head our campaign. If that is correct, that completely eliminates Rudy and McCain. Those two "frontrunners" will never get a nomination. I think McCain has almost as many negatives amongst republicans as Hillery does with Dems. Rudy is anti-gun and pro abortion. And finally, Newt has the "street smarts" required to win.

ITs his scandals that will sink him.

The fact he left his first wife and served her divorce papers when she was being treated for cancer. He also screwed his wife out of alimony payments when it came to some book deal he got.

Lets not also forget that he rationalized publically that he got oral sex from his intern once because he could go home and tell his wife he wasnt having sex with anyone else.

Lets not also forget that when he was trying to hang bill clinton for screwing around with his intern, Gingrich was screwing around with his. Yea i know, i twas about perjury, but the public has never seen it that way.

His scandals will sink him.

1996 VP Debates - Kemp vs. Gore

I was so certain that Jack Kemp was going to clean Algore's clock. Oops, was I so wrong. What a disappointment that was.

I wouldn't be so sure about Gingrich vs. ?

I didn't hear Howard Fineman tout Gingrich, but Bill Kristol was singing the same tune Sunday on Chris Wallace Show. What are those Washington guys smoking?

Gingrich for President is a laughable idea here in Georgia. It's not going to happen, unless someone can get elected without a homestate.

I've really liked Newts in your face style over the years but his recent cozying up to Mrs Clinton makes me want to puke.
