What did those commies do to him? He was bitter after 2000 and spend a lot of time sniping at the president and flirting with the Dems, even after 9/11.

Thanks for the story. What is so odd about this is there was a serious recall effort against M cCain right before 9-11 in his home state, and people actually think he has a chance at the nomination.

The mainstream media loves John McCain and they regularly write fawning articles referring to him as a "maverick" and a "straight-talker."

And the MSM comprises his constituency. He'll never make it through the primaries.

Moreover, it's no big secret that McCain is roundly despised by more than a few conservatives. The thinking there usually goes, "Well, what are they going to do, vote for Hillary?" No, they won't, "vote for Hillary," but will they contribute money to McCain, volunteer for his campaign, or defend him from attacks made by Democrats or the press? No, they won't. More importantly, they may throw their votes away by voting Libertarian or for the Constitution Party in 2008

Absolutely correct. I'm not sure I could vote for McCain, although I am usually adamantly against doing a protest vote. Once that ballot is in front of me, I might not be able to put the pen next to his name.

Until he BLEW IT OUT OF THE WATER with this phenomenal comeback:

Phenomenal, yes. John McCain is no Ronald Reagan, though (and quoting a Reagan line won't help).

It doesn't matter what you would do. Read this.

No, they won't More importantly, they may throw their votes away by voting Libertarian or for the Constitution Party in 2008. Given that the outcome of three of the last four elections may have been decided by these sorts of protest votes (for Perot in '92 and '96 and Nader in 2000), this is not an issue that should be taken lightly.

Folks need to stop saying they'd vote for him if pressed. As if that means anything. Some key activists will NOT give him money, they will NOT defend him (and where would G.W.B. be if conservatives hadn't solidly stood by him these f-6 years?)...infact they'll probably do the opposite and tear him down (I will), they won't join GOTV and very likely sit it out or vote third party. In THIS climate, if a few million take this road a DEMOCRAT will win. If a few percentage points, 2%-4% drop support from the GOP ticket, the Democrat wins. It's been done before, and it'll happen again.

McCain thinks he can pick up Dems and Indy's to cover for the drop from conservatives that refuse to vote for him. He won't. Dems will drop him and go for their own. Indy's will be turned off by the MSM that now drops the soft ball act and destroys the "maverick" they built, and conservatives that will have a hard time selling McCain as their consciences will be constantly afflicted which Indy's will pick up on.

The Democrat will win if McCain is on the ticket, not that it much matters. because McCain's agenda would be little different than the Democrat's, only worse because Republicans would be loathe to contradict him.

Michael Reagan also initially supported McCain in 2000, but turned against him when McCain lost his temper at Reagan during an interview on his radio show. All Reagan did to provoke McCain was to ask his guest if Warren Rudman, who was prominent in McCain's presidential campaign, would have any influence over Supreme Court appointments, such as David Souter.

If he has no respect for the Constitution with the 1st amendment, why should anyone believe he will protect the 2nd?

However, the reason McCain is so well liked by the media is because they're liberals and they love it when he trashes other Republicans. But, what would happen if John McCain actually became the Republican nominee? The same members of the mainstream media who gush over him today would turn on him in a Minnesota minute and once his great press ended, his poll numbers with Independents and Democrats would start to drop precipitously.

When will the mccainiacs realize this...

I'd vote third party. In fact Hillary V McCain V a reasonable conservative "independent" (read: what would normally be a republican) the independent has a good chance of winning! Think about it, McCain gets the moderate democrats and moderates, Hillary gets the hardcore liberals and the independent gets everyone right of McCain (which is alot).

Just imagine what the MSM will do to him if he gets the nomination. They’ll promptly dump every bit of completely accurate dirt they have on him about his mental instabililty and the Witch will waltz into the presidency virtually unopposed. This is why the polls that show him beating her are irrelevant.
