BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan, March 9, 2006 — U.S. soldiers of the 10th Sustainment Brigade, from Fort Drum, N.Y., assumed the mission of the Joint Logistics Command from soldiers of the 29th Support Group during a ceremony here March 6.

“It is truly an honor to lead the Joint Logistics Command that will continue to play a pivotal role in contributing to the security and stability of the country of Afghanistan.”

U.S. Army Col. Larry D. Wyche, commander of the 10th Sustainment Brigade (known as the “Muleskinners”) will now oversee the joint organization, which has personnel from every branch of service, civilians and from coalition countries.

“It is truly an honor to lead the Joint Logistics Command that will continue to play a pivotal role in contributing to the security and stability of the country of Afghanistan,” Wyche said.
The Joint Logisitics Command provides combat service support through the full spectrum of operations to sustain the coalition's Combined Joint Task Force – 76 and defeat extremist groups that threaten stability and security in Afghanistan. The command ensures that soldiers fighting on the front lines have everything they need – from beans to bullets and fuel to water.

The 29th Support Group, which is based in Germany, is commanded by U.S. Army Col. Walter J. Sawyer. The unit deployed to Afghanistan in March 2005 and is expected to complete its redeployment soon.

This is the second deployment to Afghanistan for the 10th Sustainment Brigade, formerly Division Support Command. The soldiers of the brigade expect to stay in Afghanistan until 2007.
