I found Rush's attitude yesterday (Wednesday) disgusting. For the first time, I starting seeing Rush in a different light, and it wasn't flattering.

Are you saying that Rush is no longer the smartest man ever to walk the face of the earth, or at least sit behind a microphone? Are you saying that he ought to unleash the one hand tied behind his back?

In all series, I am neither for nor against the deal, not because I can't make up my mind, but because as Mr. Reagan points out, there is a hugh information gap. One question that I would like answered is who is responsible for preparing the manifest (or as Li'l [Up]Chucky Schummer likes to say, the "manifold"). That is a crucial issue in my mind because the manifest is apparently a significant factor that Homeland Security and the Coast Guard consider in determining which loads to physically inspect.

STANDING O Michael!!!!!!!!!!!

Your finger tips must have third degree burns!!!

Conservatives outside the beltway have yet to get a clear answer to that question, and we deserve more than the kind of scorn the inside-the-beltway elitists have used to describe us. We are not bigots, we are not ignorant clods, we are simply concerned citizens who seek assurances we have yet to get.

It seems to be an article of faith among the Washington conservative establishment that they possess superior wisdom that somehow elevates them above all others when it comes to deciding what constitutes conservativism. They see themselves set apart from those in red-state America who exist only to be led around by their betters.

They don’t grasp the inescapable fact that they are imitating the liberal blue-state elite who think that nobody outside of New York, Los Angeles or Boston has an opinion worth listening to. Only for them Washington is the seat of all conservative wisdom.

Every single one of this bunch is quick to claim the legacy of Ronald Reagan and to identify themselves with his beliefs, yet nobody had more contempt for the kind of elitist attitudes the inside-the-beltway crowd have adopted.

This is exactly right!

The real thing that gets me is how those defending this on the radio, the "conservative elite" as he puts it, defend it by parading a host of people through "that have lived in the UAE," or "work in the Pentagon."

BIG DEAL! That is so lame and weak that it shames those using those as defenses for many reasons, the primary one being that it brings no actual facts to the table.

Yeah, so what! I've been behind the iron curtain often and for extended stays. Yet I didn't come back ranting about how since I never saw any civil or human rights abuses that life was grand and the government honest.

How many of us have gone to Mexico? How many of those have taken walks back in out of the "tourist district?" Probably not too many. How many had their bus pulled over by unidentified people bearing guns, pointed at us, with fears that we didn't know whether we'd be shot, .... at 3 am or so?

Probably not many, and yet I can't imagine anyone coming back from a vacation in Mexico stating how grand life is for Mexicans nationwide. Yet, the same ridiculous logic is used in this case. I've been trying to call at least one host on this, but just haven't been able to get through.

Few of those pro are extrapolating out and even considering the possible spinoff issues that may exist. If they are, then they certainly are not expressing them, and as well, why would they be so adamantly pro then!

As well, have we yet heard what kind of information that the "operators of the port" would have access to? I haven't heard a shred of it in spite of searching dearly! IMO it is that which is the biggest issue in this ports deal. Nothing more, nothing less.

There was a time when we protected critical information from our enemies, potential enemies, and those that had even remote ties to our enemies!!! Apparently that time has now come and gone.

Meanwhile, as Reagan implied, we still haven't a clue as to what that information is, that a UAE company may have access to, that could potentially either provide part or all of a much bigger picture scenario to activities that could harm our nation and its people, ..... us!

Oh, but silly me! I forgot that we've begun to turn over a new leaf whereby we actually trust our enemies hoping that in the future they won't riot and will perhaps stop being our enemies! Well hey, it worked with the USSR and Russia, .... right? /s

It can be opinions forever. However DP officially owns the leases for 6 port terminals in 5 ports as of midnight last night. The methods of the federal government to provide security is being reviewed but the deal has already closed. DP owns P&Q and the deal has been closed!

As I listen to people debate the ports issues I am not as against it as when I first heard about it.

However, just because people are against it they should not be labeled bigots and racists.

Muslim terrorists have been around for very long time and my first real indication that world wide terrorism was biting us in the ass was the Munich massacre. Then all the airplane hijackings, suicide bombings, the Marine Barracks in Beirut, Kobar towers and the embassy bombings. About forty years of Muslim extremism. No one was overly concerned about it as long as it happened overseas, even if American military and civilians were the targets, Now the terrorists have struck in America and people are real concerned and they don't trust any Muslim. They have been given plenty of reason and that don't make them bigots or racists.

There was an interview with a former marine longshoreman at the Port of Baltimore refuting everything Gibson was saying

Jim Angle had a great piece aired on Brit Hume's show yesterday. He went to the docks in Baltimore, several people, including the marine longshoreman, had a very different take on this whole story. Very informative!!

Islamophobia?

Why does suspicion of an fanatic ideology composed of people who have sworn to kill you, convert you to their demonic religion, or turn you into a slave all of a sudden make one a knuckledragging bigot?

Rush's mistake on this, as is Snow's, as is many others, is that they utterly fail to factor ISLAM into the picture. They have their blinders on looking at this primarily from the perspective of a "global economy." If that's your primary and almost exclusive platform for analyzing this, then there's probably nothing wrong.

What's interesting is that I doubt that Rush, Snow, et al., would defend, either then or in hindsight, a company full of "Germans" running/operating/whatever the semantical exercise of the day calls it, our ports in say Philly, NY, or Boston in 1942 if the economy "were more global."

Yet, that's exactly what they're doing here too. They are also utterly ignoring the fact that even if there were an interest in espionage in any way, DPW isn't going to provide any insight into that! Yet, they rant on as if that isn't even a remote possibility. Ergo, they lose credibility amongst Americans, and conservative Americans specifically.

Absolutely. Common sense to fear/hate that which is designed to destroy you.
What say we 'take back' the world 'Islamophobe', like some in the black community did the word ' n*gg*r'. Redefine it as a positive term? I certainly consider myself an Islamophobe as well as Islamocontemptus- and I'm PROUD to say it!

"...explain why all of a sudden a Middle Eastern company is held to a different standard than a great British company."

Well, Brits didn't fly the planes into the twin towers and the Pentagon. Brits don't engage in homicide bombings of busses, cafes, pizz parlors, shopping centers, etc. Brits don't kidnap Jewish men in Paris, torture them for three weeks, calling up their families and reading the koran to them while torturing their son in the background. Brits don't have a 30-plus year history of hijacking airliners and ships and murdering people. Brits haven't declared that their particular religion is going to dominate the world and their goal is to put us under a particular religious law. Brits don't kidnap people and show videotapes of their beheadings to the world.

Email that to the White House! Email it to newspapers!

Bottom line- Dubai, like all Muslim countries, should be held to different standards because they are controlled by the religion that is our enemy.

I watched the segment as well and god for bid if the other networks followed up on it...That piece by angle should put a lot peoples hearts to rest...As far as i'm concerned, this is way overblown...People are just too freaked out and thinking with their emotions...We need the UAE, plain and simple...As a reminder, folks need to get a grasp of where they are located...That alone will/should make your view a whole lot easier to accept, let alone their significant cooperation with the war..

Hmmm. Aren't the folks that saw people's heads off, blow themselves up to kill folks around them indiscriminately, fly airplanes into buildings, riot over cartoons and mistreated Korans, etc., all Muslims?

Any suspicion or fear of Islam and its practitioners is perfectly rational, so it can't be a "phobia."

I try very hard not to engage in flame wars in Jim Robinson's parlor... ok, it isn't really very hard :) ...so I've stayed out of this. Still, I've noticed the slurs, the ad hominem attacks on those who have doubts about this deal. One side acting like a hive instinctively stinging what doesn't smell like they do---basically accusing the other side of that very thing: indiscriminately attacking the Muslim UAE.
I've also noticed some long-time freepers having their privileges suspended. 'Nuff said.
