CITY HALL -- A proposed law up for consideration at Tuesday's City Council meeting could spell the end for the Glendale Gun Show, a fixture at the Glendale Civic Auditorium for decades.
The ordinance, which was requested by Mayor Rafi Manoukian, would ban possession or sale of firearms and ammunition on city property, including the Civic Auditorium.
The law provides an exemption for possession of firearms by police officers, security guards, persons holding valid firearms licenses, members of the military and authorized participants in a motion picture or theatrical production.
Allowing the sale of guns at the city's auditorium sends the wrong message, Manoukian said.
"This is a public facility, and we don't want to give the impression that the city is promoting these gun shows," he said.

Next week, the Glendale Civic Auditorium will host NAMBLA. According to Mayor Rafi Manoukian, this is a public facility, and we don't want to give the impression that the city discriminates against any organization.

They did this several years ago in the Austin, Tx. Worked out for the best. We now have a larger, better gun show every month.

Off topic, but I'm surprised anyone even goes to gun shows anymore. I stopped going to the ones around my area -- I can get anything I want online at better prices and way too many of the vendors are simply trying to take advantage of folks with ridiculous prices (note to gun show vendors: those beater 30 round AR mags from 1975 aren't worth 20 dollars a piece anymore, and that questionable parts rifle, yeah the one without a single matching number anywhere on it and a barrel devoid of any discernable rifling, that you're selling as a C&R rarity, is not worth $450.00).
An avid outdoorsmen who's hunted with Vice President Dick Cheney, Scalia spoke Saturday at the National Wild Turkey Federation's annual convention.
"The attitude of people associating guns with nothing but crime, that is what has to be changed," Scalia told the audience of about 2,000.
"I grew up at a time when people were not afraid of people with firearms," said Scalia, noting that as a youth in New York City he was part of a rifle team at the military school he attended.
"I used to travel on the subway from Queens to Manhattan with a rifle," he said. "Could you imagine doing that today in New York City?"
Instead of punishing the other users of the facility, why not just deduct it from the mayor's pay and all those city staffers who thinks it's such a good idea.
The gun shows in California have been turning into more of a miltaria swapmeet. Any given gun shop in Pocatello has more stock on hand than the biggest Crossroads shows that I last attended in San Diego.
The dumbass mayor doesn't realize the revenues he is turning away for the city. The shows are very quiet events with lots of law enforcement uniformed and plainclothes. Some of them are present as customers too. I hope everyone with signed contracts to hold the shows takes the mayor to court for violation of ex post facto laws. A lawsuit with treble the damages in lost revenues and sunk expenses delivered personally to the mayor would get his attention.

Yes, but, unfortunately, the California Constitution does not contain an explicit right of the people to keep and bear arms. And the federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (more commonly referred to as the Ninth Circus) has ruled that the Second Amendment does not confer an individual right to keep and bear arms.
One solution to this problem is to have a ruling by a properly constituted US Supreme Court that the Second Amendment means what it says and that the immunity from infringement of that right may not be deprived of a citizen of the US by any state.
Alternatively, the people of California, making use of the Initiative Constitutional Amendment process, may change their constitution to protect the right to keep and bear arms.
California Freepers should support the initiative petition drive presently under way by reading the initiative itself on the main web site of The Alliance for Civil Rights, www.tacr.us and then by volunteering through the volunteers web site, rkba.members.sonic.net.

Dave will provide guidance for volunteering at gun shows and for setting up petition locations to serve as signing opportunities for the general public. The goal is to gather over 600,000 signatures of registered California voters by April 15th. This will cause the measure to appear on the November ballot. If a majority of Californians approve, there will then be an explicit right to keep and bear arms in California, independent of the tyrannical nonsense of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
