"It's intended to track people who have had two or more offenses dealing with drunken driving," Taylor said. This clearly demonstrates the stupidity of the current attempts to solve the DUI problem. People with two or more DUI's should not be an issue. They should be rotting in jail for 20 years. Problem solved!

Apologies to all for leaving, especially when I'm enjoying the discussion so much, but I'm afraid I have jury duty today. Do you suppose it will be a drunk driving case?!?
See you all later!

Much as I sympathize with them, their feelings are less important to me than the safety of innocent drivers who may be hit by the drunk. Tell me, are you always so inclined to Do Good? How about people that forget to use their turn signals or that don't use Ethanol, or that drive gas-hogging SUVs?
We could have special plates for them too!

In my little town the people are mad because the new Police Chief has his officers arresting the drunks when the bars close instead of driving them home!!

There was a Restaurant in Sussex County called "Hester Prynne's" and it displayed that very symbol out front.
That restaurant burned down a few years ago. LOL

Stupid law.
I personally know of people in the great Communistwealth of Virginia who just get their girlfriends, buddys, etc. to register the non-licensed person's vehicle in their name and have been driving with no license for years.
Don't even get me started on what the illegals around here are doing behind the wheel of all those cars with NC tags.

Ohio already has Drunk Plates, easily distinguished by this taxi-cab yellow and red color combo. My nieces and nephews love to play the "point and laugh" game when they see one of these. I remember when these first came out. Arizona plates had the same color scheme, so the cops always gave a closer look at the occasional Arizona car too. However, they are very rarely required by a judge. Most seem to believe that it is unfair.
I think this will soon be a moot point. I expect that soon the traffic cameras and cameras in police cars will soon have real time character recognition. From there is is a minor jump to having a continual check on those plates so any police officer driving by someone with a DUI on his record will be alterted to that fact.

Why don't we just put in a transmitter in the drunk's car.
That way, the LEO doesn't even have to look to see if the person is drunk at the time his car is in the vincinity of the cop's.
That sounds like a Good Idea. Especially to Those that Like to Do Good at the expense of everyone else! /s

I approve of this. A person convicted twice of drunk driving is clearly irresponsible,...
---
Clearly irresponsible? How about speeding? How about going through red lights? How about making right turn on red when the signs prohibit this? How about every other moving violation?
If he's an unsafe driver, take away his license. If the state will give him a license there's something wrong with the state, and the solution is fixing the state, and this sort of public relations garbage doesn't fix THAT problem.
To: American Quilter
By pulling him over and administering the standard sobriety tests, a cop might be able to determine that he's DUI before he causes an accident.
---
Some people are DUI, but have never had a conviction. This does nothing to protect us from such as these.
How about we just drop probable cause and allow the police to stop anybody at any time for no reason and administer at sobriety test? Much more convenient.

Drunk drivers should all be charged with ATTEMPTED MURDER!!!!!!!!
First offense or twentieth.

How about if we dispense with the formalities - if you fail the Breathalyzer the officer can execute you on the spot.

The Nazis perpetrated the genocide of European Jews during World War II. The atrocious deaths numbered in the millions.
How can anyone have the temerity to indulge in a dimwitted analogy dealing with license plates? How can anyone be so thoughtless as to defend this foolish analogy? And you dare call me obtuse?

---
First thought - might be good idea.
Second thought - driver "just" accidentally "drops" something on the transmitter so it longer works.
"Gosh officer, I didn't know it wasn't transmitting, honest!"
