Tom DeLay stood up a large crowd of Republican voters tonight.
The event was scheduled long in advance, however with no notice Tom DeLay snubbed the crowd by simply not showing up.
Reports have every single Republican candidate for every office up for election in the district there, along with their respective supporters; everyone except DeLay that is.
There was national media there, including a national radio program sent to cover the event.
What do you guys make of that?
Where?
Sugarland Texas.
I make that he realized the circus was going to be about him and he didn't want to ruin the evening for the other candidates.
That, or he's a jackass.
YMMV.
ping
Not Good! Not Got At All!
He's a jackass. Not one Democrat in the house...yet he doesn't see fit to show up.
He's an arrogant jackass looks like to me.
Who cares about the other candidates. He screwed the voters on this one.
Meant to say,
Not Good At all!
Meant to say,
Not Good At all!
Whats the story on this one?
And I should care because.....
If you don't care don't post.
Sorry I must have missed something........just when did the whole lot of totally GUTLESS Republicans stand in support of Tom DeLay? Seems like as soon as he was railroaded by Mr. Earle, the repub and rinos couldn't run fast enough. Personally can't say as I would blame him for never showing up to support a Republican. IMHO
I have noticed some photos of Mr. De-Lay lately. That smirk of a grin is gone . . . .
You got it backwards... he wasn't showing up--which he didn't do--to support another Republican...
There wasn't a person there that believed Mr. Earle.
Mr. DeLay was gutless to not show his face. Thats the only gutless person we need to be talking about.
I think it is funny that that everybody responding to this unsourced thread are either from Califirnia or they do not state their location.
What kind of source you want? Few hundred witnesses? Will that work?
I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that you took it personally... relax, he's just a man.
So sorry, but I couldn't agree with you less.
He's just a man, thats true. Proved that tonight.
Maybe Tom didn't want to overshadow all the other candiates. With Tom there .. the media wouldn't pay attention to the other people.
I think it was probably a wise move.
Just curious...
What event was this? Was it a Fort Bend County GOP event?
Was it for Tom DeLay or was it an event for all GOP Candidates?
Was this the event that Dick Morris was scheduled to attend?
That joke is about as big as Tom DeLay's head.
Every thread tonight has been taken over by Dummies.
I don't know who sponsored it.
I don't know if Dick Morris went. I don't think so.
This will not be helpful to him. It won't make or break the race by itself. However, people who attend rallies tend to be hard-core supporters, not undecideds. Some of them might choose to snub him at the voting booth.
Who are you referring to?
Thanks.... The reason I asked is that I can't find anything on the Ft. Bend Cty GOP calendar for tonight.... there was an event on the 11th which Dick Morris was the featured speaker... I don't find anything in the news media from the area such as the Chronicle or tv...
Do you know why DeLay chose not to attend?...
Thats the WHOLE point of this thread.
Anything you can shed on this event in Ft. Bend Cty? I can't remember who the others are from that area at this time.
Since you're from Hawaii, maybe you can fill me in on an unrelated matter. What Republicans are possible candidates for the U.S. Senate this year?
Then he just didn't show up. The event was basically over before it started from the sounds of things.
Apparently he had better things to do. He went to a dinner with Kay Bailey over in Dallas or something "so he couldn't make it".
you want a list or what?
I would say that the eight page letter Rep. DeLay sent to the likely Republican primary voters in his district addressing several tough questions regarding his recent indictment, travel on congressional business, and association with Jack Abramoff will have a greater impact on his constituents than whether or not he attended this event. As a resident of his district and one of the recipients of the letter, I dont make much of his failure to attend this event. I havent yet voted in the primary and havent made up my mind how I will vote. My choice will be between Rep. DeLay and Tom Campbell in the primary.
Maybe Tom had a fever...

That's how I look at it. Had it been a Democrat rally, the media would have said "hundreds of thousands showed up" while softening the image of the Democrat in trouble.
The media sees Democrats as victims, while the Republicans are all bad guys.
Just a list of Hawaii Republicans who may run against Akaka or Case.
I don't like DeLay for a few reasons, and none of them have anything to do with Ronnie Earle, nor Tom DeLay's voting record.
I believe he thinks the district is owed to him, but more importantly he can single handedly screw up elections across the nation for other republicans.
The conservative movement can and will eventually function without Tom DeLay. I say replace him with an equally conservative candidate (Tom Campbell) before DeLay proceeds to screw things up for a great number of other districts.
The Hawaii Kai area of Oahu might yeild a solid Senate candidate.
There are some places on Maui and the Big Island that trend Republican too.
There are actually quite a few Republicans in Hawaii.
Politics in Hawaii are a different breed.
A lot of the younger people have no aversion to voting Republican. The older people are wooped into voting straight D.
It has a lot to do with image, and a lot to do with history too...
The democrats in Hawaii have succssfully exploited the population for a very long time.
Way back in the day there were a lot of Haole (white guys) who were basically plantation owners...some were completely downright mean and uncaring. It was really an abuse of power.
The idea that Republicans are pro-business and have the image of being 'white men' means to them 2+2=4 so that generation just hates Republicans. They were basically driven straight to the union groups in the not too distant past.
Call it what you will, but thats whats been going on...
There are quite a few people who are conservative on many issues, but still vote Democrat all the way. Some people hate the tax man...others are very socially conservative. Getting all the cylinders firing in unison isn't easy though.
Hence whoever it is running will have a hard time. Its truly no different than Republicans trying to make headway into the black community.
In Hawaii though the younger generation isn't so fooled.
Politics are local...and his support and voters are in place.
There is NO alternative in the GOP primary, or in the November election against a demonRAT, that can carry the water that DeLay has a proven record of doing.
maui_hawaii, is attacking Tom DeLay your new hobby? It's pretty clear that you've been advocating taking DeLay out in a primary for some time now. So don't pretend you're some sort of unbiased observer.
I can tell you straight out what caused me to change my own opinion about this if you care to hear.
Seriously, I did start out unbiased. Before I kind of really didn't care.
Just bowl us over with those details, whydoncha?
Welcome to Free Republic.
"Reports have every single Republican candidate for every office up for election in the district there"
So there were TONS of elected officials and their supporters there, (supposedly) Tom DeLay doesn't show up, and everyone goes home? BS BS BS BS BS BS BS ........
He's equally conservative and will be better for all around precisely because he's not Tom DeLay. Putting Tom Campbell in that seat will do more to further the Republican cause across the nation than Tom DeLay ever could going forward.
Tom DeLay dug a hole for himself and its no one's fault but his.
Tom DeLay will end up hurting candidates nationwide with his antics.
I am not married to Tom DeLay as the godfather of the Republican Party. This isn't the mafia. I am looking forwards and pretty much all Tom DeLay can do is cause trouble.
