Brokeback Mountain is a romance movie, so guys are automatically going to dismiss it. The problem is, it's a gay romance story, so it won't appeal to women who would otherwise drag their SOs to a normal romance movie.

The only way this movie would be any good is if it were a comedy.Take some excerpts from old John Wayne movies and work them in at the right places and it would be worth seeing.

I live in a blue state ... in Los Angeles. And I don't know anyone who has seen it or has talked about wanting to see it.

"So I guess that not liking a movie may be considered "racist" and "bigotry" by the left?"

O.K., whatever. Why not throw in "prejudiced", as well, for those of us who already know we will not go see it?

So many better movies, so little money.

Leftys are not about tolerance: they are about intimidation. I was astonished when I went to UT-Austin (a supposedly conservative school) forty years ago and discovered that liberals have only contempt for those who disagree with them. The most dogmatic people I had ever met. Now I am talking about my peers in graduate school. The professors were old fashioned liberals who were quite willing to engage you in argument.

Meme is a fairly old concept.

Mostly this was aimed at George Bush, who botched the crisis badly, though not on any racial basis.

Mostly President Bush botched by saying it was botched.

I feel bad for all the government employees and military personnel who had to sit through the hurricane waiting to get into New Orleans only to be told to wait by the state.

Or a million saw it nine times to boost the numbers to make it look mainstream.

My thoughts exactly. And that wouldn't be hard to pull off.

I had read on another thread that March of the Penguin outgrossed all five movies that are up for Best Picture this year. So I rented it; I thought it was cute.

Louisiana is the worst argument for federalism. The Federal Army should never have allowed it to become a state again.

Q:
How many gay cowboys does it take to screw in a light bulb?
A:
Only one, but it takes 2 doctors at the ER to extract it.

I haven't seen March of the Penguins myself.  It seems like the type of where liking it or hating it hinges on a bong-hit.

Moving. The producers actually made you admire a flock of birds.

This business of equating their situation with that of blacks....Well, not many gays got lynched. In fact, I was so dumb that I didn't know, except by heresay, that gays were getting hassled by the cops. No doubt about the treatmen of blacks.

They're not cowboys in the movie, they're sheepherders. (And everybody knows sheep herders will stop at nothing.)

Singing: "And I only have eyes . . . for ewe."
