I spend a fair amount of time at my daughter's elementary school, and I have to say the size of the kids there are no different than the kids I went to elementary school with back in the 60s and early 70s. Granted it's only anecdotal, but I have to tell you, I can't handle being anywhere near that school when those kids are out for recess.........just watching them wears me out.
I don't know if it is because we live in a rural area and the kids are more used to being outside regardless of the weather, or is it just overkill by organizations such as CSPI that get all the media attention.
I do realize there is a certain amount of a problem with a sedentary lifestyle and useless calories, but the more I think about it, the more I have to wonder just how big of a problem is it really?
Back in the seventies (my long haired hippie axer toting days) our drummer lost his father to cancer.
Well, back in the late forties, he was present at the Bikini Island nuclear tests.
He was in his fifties when he died in the mid '70's, his wife had their last child at the ripe old age of 53!, and he never promoted the idea that being present at the nuclear tests had anything to do with his demise, however he did impress upon those around him what the testing accomplished for the USA and was proud of his being a part of it.
Many who have achieved in life and have died, chalked it up to the workings of God, never involved politics in it, and most of all never BLAMED anything or anyone for their final demise.
The lack of personal pride for many leads them to follow the piper and through want, go to the care givers via government and take when they should be a part of giving.
They are liberal minded IMO....
How is the food?
Its it worth the risk? : - )
I meant "is"
Thats what I get for letting my fingers do the walking....
Just wait until they add No Flatulaters Allowed
I expect a real stink when that happens ;-)
"Don't get me wrong, I'm not disparaging all people who work for a government entity..."
I was listening to a guy on local talk radio yesterday. He stated that nearly 3/4 of the people that work in Madison, WI work for the government in one form or another (state, city, federal, the university system, road crews, the VA, the Post Office, police, fire, EMTs, etc.) I'd believe it.
Wonder if there's any connection between blue voting areas and the number of government workers living there? I mean, it seems like a no-brainer, but I'd never made the connection before.
And which comes first? The people who are sucked into the Big Government Machine after it arrives, or the Big Government Machine that's already there and then attracts those types of people?
(And for the record, I worked "for the government" for two decades, if one considers military service as working for the government.)
Trust me, my kids' fannies had their fair share of public spankings! "Oh, the inhumanity!"
I have 3 boys, 2 grown and one 14. It is funny how each kid is different.
My oldest was a have-to-touch-everything kid, but not a whiner. I rarely had to get after him. My middle son was not happy until his fanny was spanked. His fanny may have stung, but by God, he "got my goat!" In his mind, he won.
There are ten years (to the day) between him and my youngest. With age comes experience. When he would reve up I would look at him and say "Been there, done that, doesn't work on me anymore." He was the most well-behaved. I spanked him once when he was five. Put him across my knee. One spank....Very controlled, but I made sure it stung.
From that moment on, all I ever had to do was say "Do I need to get your attention?" He knew what I meant. Then he turned 12, the satanic year for boys. (Terrible 2's were my favorite.) He's a good boy, but God knows for the third time, I am the essence of ignorance and he knows everything, LOL!
But there is hope, I found out. My oldest son is now a father. He and his wife think I am so wise! They were here a few weeks ago and my little man had yet to sleep through the night. I remember what it was like having no sleep so I told them to put the Portacrib in my room and they could both get a good night's sleep.
The little stinker slept through the night. "Son, do you warm his bottle?" You would have throught I found the cure for cancer. Being Grandma is a whole different ballgame. I like it!
ROFLMSS!!!!!!!
I'm the same age as the grandmother of my daughter's best friend (they're 7 that will change next week, I'm sure) and this child of mine has all of them snowed.....everyone thinks she is just the sweetest thing.......If only they knew the real "her."
