TORONTO -- A student newspaper at Canada's largest university is not backing down after publishing a cartoon depicting the Prophet Mohammed and Jesus kissing.
Nick Ragaz, managing editor for the Strand, says the paper is not pulling the controversial issues off the University of Toronto campus and the cartoon will also remain on its website.
He said the cartoon was intended to provoke debate, dialogue, and thought, and should not be understood to promote violence or hate.
The cartoon was published Wednesday alongside an editorial addressing the debate on whether to publish the controversial Danish cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed.
Canada Ping!
Please FReepmail me to get on or off this Canada ping list.
So he wants to p!ss off Muslims AND Christians at the same time. nice
I think we are mature enough to handle it.
:-)
They covered themselves by not showing mohammad's face.
Just burned a Canadian flag, broke my hockey stick and fired my AK-47 skyward...NOT.
---Satirical or downright offensive? The Strand wants your opinion.---
I don't know. Any tongue action there?
I don't know.....I have a can of kerosene and I don't like the color of my neighbors car...
I voted 'yes, because freedom of the press is important.' But instead of kissing Jesus, I would've shown mohammad trying to kill him because that's what mohammadans are trying to do.
LOL!
I don't think many people know about it yet.
Will the liberal banner of homosexuality/tolerance/diversity be sufficient to stave off dissent? Let's hope so! Why? Because the Liberal media is try to make a stand. They've made Christian-bashing so popular that, coupled with the rock-solid PC foundation they've laid, this is their best way to battle those who would prefer quiet submission to Muslim destruction-protests rather than defending Free Speech. It's offensive, just as the bomb-turban image is to the sand monkeys... but I'm going to continue to assert that they should have the freedom to print it. (And I'll continue to have the freedom to not buy their paper.)
Anything else, and the ululating Tusken Raiders have won.
It's not that really bad green color, is it?
Let's not forget the massive coverage of the 10 burnt Baptist churches in Alabama recently. Gonna take months of investigation to determine if there was a pattern of "hate" involved.
51% No, I'm offended by it
19% No, it's not funny and can only cause problems
15% Yes, Freedom of the Press is important!
11% Yes, it was funny and had a relevant message
4% I don't get it
74% either don't get it, or oppose printing it.
We're losing badly... and by "we", I mean lovers of liberty.
That's the color of MY truck, dammit. Where's YOUR car?,,,,,, I got a match.....i'm gettin my buddies....
"...the cartoon was intended to provoke debate, dialogue, and thought..."
Liberal cowardice at its worst. Why can't they be honest and admit that they have an agenda, and the agenda is being shoved down our throats daily.
Debate?
Dialogue?
Thought?
Someone out there, please post a concise answer to this particular piece of lib-speak. I'd love a down to have a down and dirty response for the next time I hear that crap.
I think I stuttered mid-sentence.
Oops. Sorry.
