AMERICAN rocker and writer Henry Rollins was reported to the National Security hotline during his recent Australian tour because of a book he was reading on a flight to Brisbane.

A furious Rollins was informed he was "nominated as a possible threat" for reading Jihad: The Rise Of Militant Islam In Central Asia, writes Kathy McCabe.

The incident happened on a flight from Auckland on the recent Big Day Out tour.

Rollins told Australian fans during his tour that he received a letter from a "nice woman" who worked "in one of those government areas that deals with anti-terrorism matters."

He posted the letter on his website.

"Please tell your Government and everyone in your office to go f... themselves. Baghdad's safer than my hometown and your PM is a sissy," he wrote.

Rollins is a native of DC.

He has also done USO tours in the last couple years for troops in Kuwait, Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Qatar, UAE, Honduras, Japan, Okinawa, Korea, and Guam.

Rollins has also visited troops recuperating at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center.

You think you're gonna to live your life alone
In darkness
And seclusion
Yeah i know
You've been out there
Tried to mix with those animals
And it just left you full of humiliated confusion
So you stagger back home
And wait for nothing
But the solitary refinement of your room spits you back out onto the street
And now you're desperate
And in need of human contact
And then
You meet me
And you whole world changes
Because everything i say is everything you've ever wanted to hear
So you drop all your defenses and you drop all your fears And you trust me completely
I'm perfect
In every way
Cause i make you feel so strong and so powerful inside
You feel so lucky
But your ego obscures reality
And you never bother to wonder why
Things are going so well
You wanna know why?

Cause i'm a liar
Yeah i'm a liar
I'll tear your mind out
I'll burn your soul
I'll turn you into me
I'll turn you into me
Cause i'm a liar, a liar
A liar, a liar

I'll hide behind a smile
And understanding eyes
And i'll tell you things that you already know
So you can say
I really identify with you, so much
And all the time that you're needing me
Is just the time that i'm bleeding you
Don't you get it yet?
I'll come to you like an affliction
And i'll leave you like an addiction
You'll never forget me
You wanna know why?

Cause i'm a liar
Yeah i'm a liar
I'll rip your mind out
I'll burn your soul
I'll turn you into me
I'll turn you into me
Cause i'm a liar, a liar
Liar, liar, liar, liar

I don't know why i feel the need to lie
And cause you so much pain
Maybe it's something inside
Maybe it's something i can't explain
Cause all i do
Is mess you up and lie to you
I'm a liar
Oh, i am a liar

If you'll give me one more chance
I swear that i will never lie to you again
Because now i see the destructive power of a lie
They're stronger than truth
I can't believe i ever hurt you
I swear
I will never to you lie again, please
Just give me one more chance
I will never lie to you again
I swear
That i will never tell a lie
I will never tell a lie
No, no

Ha ha ha ha ha hah haa haa haa haaa
Sucker
Sucker!
Oh, sucker
I am a liar
Yeah, i am a liar
Yeah i like it
I feel good
Ohh i am a liar
Yeah
I lie
I lie
I lie
Oh, i lie
Oh i lie
I lie
Yeah
Ohhh i'm a liar
I lie
Yeah
I like it
I feel good
I'll lie again
And again
I'll lie again and again
And i'll keep lying
I promise<

Unfortunately, Rollins is a fierce anti-Bush, anti-war activist.

He does do USO tours and donates his time to the troops. Mostly because he believes they're being f***ed over by their imperialist motherland.

Amazing, I read about stuff like this all the time, yet here in NYC yesterday the Jihadists were threatening murder again, holding up signs with lovely sayings such as 'Death is on its way' in the town of 911 no less, and what happens to them in the liberal armpit of the east coast? Absolutely nothing. Let`s see how long I would last if I held up a sign in the middle of the street that said "I want to kill people".."Oh he is not Muslim looking so arrest him, that way we won`t offend Muslims".

"I don't see the logic in that and I don't understand the idea of Saddam Hussein being a threat to anybody. "

""It's [like] Vietnam right now," he continues. "It's one of those things where we're just going to stay until we finally get tired of hitting our head against the wall...The Iraqis are Allah-fueled. These are tough people. They're not doing it for a paycheck ..."

Kerry's a war veteran [who] has a hard-on to fuck with Bush," he says. "Being a war veteran in the middle of a war, [Kerry]'s going to be able to really turn around and stick it to Bush on a lot of subjects." --Henry Rollins

H'okay, if that's your idea of him "getting it"...

Gotta admit, I loved my share of Black Flag back when but...

If Rollins came to his senses it would mean most everything he built as a semi-career on would be down the tubes. I mean, how much 40+ year-old teen angst can be had supporting the War On Terror?

That's it in a nutshell--he's still doing the churlish teen "rebel" thing. OK, Hank, I got it, I got it, about 25 years ago. Ever hear of, I dunno, growing a bit as an artist?

I had a girlfriend who loved him and loved his stuff and tried to get me to read it all, but it got old fast. I think she was disappointed that he and I only had similar builds, not minds.

The fact that he does some USO tours is supposed to somehow negate the fact that every word that comes out of his mouth demoralized the troops, their mission and their Commander in Chief. The "Iraqis" (what he means is "jihadists") aren't doing it for a paycheck? That implies that the "imperialist army" (the one he's so fond of entertaining) is.

Oh yeah, Henry Rollins "gets it".

The guy's a student of Chomsky. He's not only against the Iraq war, he was against the war in Afghanistan and the war on terror overall. He praises Bill Clinton for not taking out Bin Laden... because when the evil Bush does it, he slaughters innocent Pakistanis.

But let's not "label" him a democrat of anything. He's got tattoos. That means he's a free-thinking independent... one who coincidentally comes down on the side of the democrats on every issue under the sun.

The funniest thing about hardcore punkers is that they're supposed to be so non-conformist. Yet they all think the exact same thing, as if they're all sharing one collective brain.

I think I'll go put on "Heat" to watch Pacino throw this tool through a sliding glass window again.

Ohhhhhh but you should hear him rip into Ted Kennedy and his little car "accident". He rips The Swimmer a new one. I saw/heard him at a spoken word event a few years ago in Durham, NC. Audience was chock full of liberal college students and he made them all squirm. Ah, but it made me smile. I was surprised he went off on Kennedy the way he did, but he did a thorough job, making Ted look like the sh*thead he is.

The rest of his stuff is, in my opinion, a lot of over-analysis of CNN sound bites and stuff he reads in magazines on flights to his next speaking event. He's not capable of looking at the big picture with US politics and our goals. Just what he gets from cnn, his peers, and audience reaction. Further, look at his audience. He draws more crowds by catering to the 18-24 year old liberal college audience. Either way, just like us, he's entitled to his opinion, whether we agree or not.

Not only is yours a great post, but you're going to put on my current favorite movie.

I think Heat is as hugely underrated as it is entertaining. I'm going to watch it later, and slo-mo through that scene...

The "getting a paycheck" line particularly irked me.

YES. It looks like I will have to see a movie this year.

Although it was flawed I even loved Collateral. Mann has the ability to make nighttime urban landscapes into art.

The shootout in Heat was stunning in the theater--the machine guns weren't these squirting things with Tom Cruise or whoever shooting them off one-handed while riding a motorcycle, they were SCARY loud.

True. And just like Henry, we're entitled to criticize the stuff he puts out there for public consumption.

The only reason I even read Rollins is because sometimes I get the impression that he's on the verge of seeing the light (I love when he goes off on Bono)... but he always manages to ultimately disappoint me. Punk has a conformity of thought problem, and I keep waiting for someone with some balls to take a sledgehammer to it.

"Collateral" fell apart towards the end, but I still really, really dug it. Cinematically, it's absolutely stunning (like everything Mann does, with the exception of "Ali").

Couldn't agree more about the "Heat" shootout. It's the best action scene ever put on screen, IMO.

I'm really hoping they release "Robbery Homicide Division" on DVD soon. That had the potential to be a really great show, until Sizemore blew it and CBS pulled the plug.

Oh, I agree with you on being entitled to criticize his work.

When I was younger, I found him much easier to tolerate. But these days, it's just, "Oh come ON! You can do better than this, Henry." Alas, I guess he can't. Too bad.

I give him credit for staying afloat career-wise. His publishing company, his books, his tours; they're all worthy endeavors. He's not ended up a washed-up aging C-List frontman for a punk band. Oh...wait. Well, not really anyway. He's still making a decent living and he's still getting press occasionally. Things could be worse.

But imagine his brain being set free and *allowed* to think more conservatively - and logically. Some good stuff might just come out.
