06 February 2006 20:15 The sinking of an Egyptian ferry in the Red Sea three days ago is continuing to have violent repercussions.
This morning relatives of some of the 1,400 people on board set fire to El Salam Maritime's offices in Safaga.
Police used tear gas to drive away the people who had congregated outside the offices.
Agree!
Prayers for the passengers, their families and friends.
Crew told the passengers to take the life jackets off.
The Captain pulled a George Constanza getting into the first lifeboat.
Mubarak will give 2500 for every dead passanger per death certificate but none are issued.
Yeah, I say riots are called for.
Does anyone know what's become of the captain and crew who deserted the ferry?
Are they locked up -- I hope.
Sure, but consider the people involved. They would have rioted if the ship sank in a foot of water.
The Egyptian government refused assistance from the Israeli navy.
I told you it was OK for the news channels to use the same video for the response to the cartoons and the response to the ferry sinking.
In fact, all TV news can pull their reporters out of the hot zones. From here on, any time they need a Muslim reaction to any type of world event, they can just run canned shots of rioting.
Or if they showed "Roadrunner and Mohammad" cartoons.
There would have been an even bigger riot, had they accepted the assistance from the Israelis.
Some nations are ruled by laws and self-restraint, others by chaos, violence, and emotional outbursts. Not to excuse negligence and stupidity that results in capsizing ferries but come on, this type of behavior is why these "cultures" simply won't adapt to civilization.
The Israeli Navy repeatedly offered to provide assistance, as they were the most capable in the area and literally on the scene. Their requests to provide assistance was repeatedly denied by the Egyptians. Kind of telling isn't it?
I saw in another article that the captain disappeared right after he was last seen abandoning ship in one of the first lifeboats. Probably hiding out somewhere until the brouhaha is over.
Yes, they preferred to just leave their dead and dying than to let the Israelis help. Sick.
Well, the captain had better stay hidden then, because if any of the families find out where he is, he'll be finished off.
bttt
Channel surfing briefly this morning and there was IPUS, also known as IMUS, remarking that the people in Egypt had a right to riot.
And to top it all, there were drawings of Muhammad on that boat!
And thanks for the info, I was curious about that.
Actually, I heard they rioted because information about loved ones was not given quickly enough. So my question is: is the anything they WON'T riot over?
Egypt prefered that people die than be saved by the evil Jews.
Like I said the other day......"Any excuse for a jihad"....
"IT'S BUSH's FAULT" :)
Yes, let their people die, anything but allow the evil Jews to help.
Remember back when Sharm al Sheik was bombed, Israel offered assistance then too, but they were not allowed to cross over the border into Egypt.
good read
In America we had the right of free speech untill political correctness came alone. In other countrys it seems the right to riot is preferred.
Do muslims stop rioting or just change reasons ?
At least this is a little more rational than the cartoon row.
Well, only updating; I do pray for the victims and their families, how sad and most of these folks seemed to have been workers from Saudi Arabia.
If Israelis vacation in parts of Egypt; and I"ve never been near that area of the world, one would think, they could take aid.
But apparently, they do toe a tight line there unfortunately with radicals. My Gosh!
