AQ is now a set of decentralized foci spread around the world. The central command structure has been dispersed but the network remains functioning below the radar in the Moslem universe.

This is mostly correct - Which brings us back to my point - The fact being UBL and Zawahiri are themselves in control of nothing. These two have been reduced to being shells of real men and who's whole existence is simply nothing more then trying to stay alive while spending their last days among Pakistani mountain trash.

The GWOT will go on for years but the notion that UBL and or Zawahiri are "running" anything is simply not true.

That does not mean I am suggesting that killing / capturing them isn't of that much importance. It most certainly is.

It is extremely important that both men are killed. But for reasons outside of the notion that they are still in command.

Yes but they were in business for many decades before that.

Indeed, without the oil, there's nothing to most of the OPEC economies. This just shows how stunningly important is the War in Iraq. A secure, democratic, and free-market Iraq will thrive without the depency on oil of most of the others.

Iraq's per Capita GDP is $3,400 as compared to Iran's $8,100. If with all that oil and cash flow that's the best Iran can do there's something drastically wrong. As things gel in Iraq, its economy will soar -- with or without the oil.

I think they lasted about a hundred years from Ibn Hassan Sabban to the Old Man of the Mountains.

Certainly Bin Laden is their spiritual descendant and even bases his operations in a similiar area. The border regions of Afganistan and Pakistan are not that far from Altamont.
