It is designed as a theatre defence system I don't know what effect it will have on strategic nuclear weapons.
Interesting how russia is ALWAYS too broke to finance the decommissioning of its nuke warheads under the SALT agreements and has to "pan handle" $$'s from the US to pay for it...BUT can find the money to develop new missile technology. Also likely that the new missile development was paid for with $$'s earmarked for nuke decommissioning.
Or Oil $$. Remember Putin did a defacto nationalization of several O&G companies over the last couple of years.

You are right and that it is advertised as a tactical system only but - It is designed to burn a hole into the side of any missile, strategic missiles are just as vulnerable as tactical in fact they are just bigger targets. The only limitation is distance to the target vs. the amount of air turbulence in between.
Also, this aircraft can be deployed at a forward base (Japan) and burn missiles as they launch (from China) and still in their boost phase.
I promise, the Pentagon never allows full disclosure of an advance system's capabilities.
Why not use satellites like the original Star Wars program called for?
