Just about everyone, except Sirius. They picked a "big name" hoping he would be their salvation. Kind of like the USFL paying Steve Young $30M and other huge salaries to some players to make a name for themselves. Sirius is the USFL of sattelite radio. I just hope XM doesn't pick him up after Sirius goes under. Then Howie would have to hang it up, go internet only, or slink back to AM/FM radio.
That is alot of $$$. I've heard/read that Rush is the most successful radio host in history...I wonder how his contract stacks up against Stern's.
Yikes. If I owned Sirius stock, I couldn't dump it quick enough.
It is almost completely impossible for Stern to go to XM. XM went with Opie and Anthony last year and has been quite successful with them. They absolutely hate Stern more than anything else in the world. Stern used to use his sway with Infinity to give them headaches all the time. When they got bounced Infinity refused to release them from their contract in order to keep from going to the competition for 2 years. They were offered release only if they wouldn't mention any Infinity employees (Stern) on any radio broadcast. They refused so they had to sit out.
Stern went with Sirius because he had all his old friends and an obscenely expensive contract. He chose poorly. He should have swallowed his pride and went with the better company.
Yea, but after taxes he'll have to scrape by on $400 mil.
I call BS. For starters, the "increase" is due to Stern's variable compensation (stock) having increased in value. Secondly, the "2.4 million" subscriber number is wildly inaccurate. An annual subscription runs about $140, and the terms of Stern's deal run five years. Do the math, 2.4 million adds corresponds to $1.8 Billion. I think somebody forgot about the deal terms.
What do you mean, no NFL? I searched the news streams and found no such announcement. The Fox situation is annoying (CNN Headline News is hardly a replacement) but let's stick to the facts here.
No NFL as in - no games right now. (my team is out... and after Super Bowl - no more games until next year.)
I'm sure Stern is used to swallowing, but it aint his pride. Whatever pride he ever had was lost long ago.
Presumably you mean XM, which has fewer Conservative talk shows than Sirius, and XM also carries Air(head) America. Whoopee.
Now, as to Stern: According to the surveys, he's added 600,000 subscribers to date. Over the five year period of the deal, that's $420 Million. So he's already coming close to having paid for himself. It was a brilliant move by Mel, and XM is once again sucking vapor.
Hey, same here (Packers) but I don't blame that on my SDARS provider. Give the NHL a try...
I know a fan of his that got sirius radio and is disappointed with him and the whole sirius radio thing,it's not portable and not convenient to listen to
they just told me they aren't renewing their subscription
couldn't happen to a creepier guy - stern
What Sirius is hoping for is that Stern's fans will wait a couple of months before they decide if they miss him. They weren't just expecting everybody to subscribe by the time he made his debut.
I got Sirius because I like the classic rock channels and the New York DJ's.
In other media news....I last night promised my beer-drinking, conservative pal with a gift for gab, $1.5 billion to be paid over the next five years if he would host the morning block for a new conservative radio network and bring in revenues during the period of at least $6.5 billion. If we go forward, I think we are both prepared to stand by the deal.
I have Sirius too because when I bought my Jeep Liberty a few months ago it was the only thing I could get factory installed and I didn't want to go aftermarket...so now, I have Sirius and XM. XM is great for baseball...Sirius for football! I liked the folk stations on XM the best, but I'm finding some really good stuff on Sirius. We were in the car today for over six hours in the desert and if it weren't for satellite radio, we'd have nothing (except CD's) to listen too. We listened to comedy, showtunes, classic country, new country, Jazz standards, not to mention two hours of Laura Ingraham!!!! Once you have satellite, you can never go back.

Where is the Jewish outrage?
God, he's unbearable in the mornings though.
I'd rather give Imus a sponge bath than listen to Howard. Basically, it's not an option cause I have little kids in the car every morning on the way to school.
My kids can listen to Imus, NPR or BBC.
Howard Stern, I believe, I must protect them from.
They can decide for themselves when they're 35.
