Mexico cancels plan to give border maps to migrants
Monterey Herald/Associated Press ^ | January 26, 2006 | AP Wire

MEXICO CITY - Mexico will suspend its plan to distribute maps to migrants wanting to cross the U.S. border illegally, but an official said Thursday the decision was not made because of American pressure.

Miguel Angel Paredes, spokesman for the federal Human Rights Commission, said the decision was made because human rights officials in border states expressed concern that the maps would show anti-immigrant groups where migrants likely would gather.

On Wednesday, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said the United States opposed the plan "in the strongest terms."

It doesn't matter if Mexico caved into American pressure, or HRW didn't want the MinuteMen standing over those watering holes. AS long as these illegals don't have a road map into our country, and there is the potential that at least SOME of these lawbreakers will not be able to make it over here, I'm happy with the outcome.

" the maps would show anti-immigrant groups where migrants likely would gather"

We already know that, anywhere south of the river here in Texas is a gathering point.

My guess is that Vicente Fox was told that we would stop all wire transfers of spondooliks to Mexico. It would have cost them billions.

I, for one, would stand there with a shotgun aimed at illegals' gut, telling them, "Turn your ass right around and go back!"

the decision was made because human rights officials in border states expressed concern that the maps would show anti-immigrant groups where migrants likely would gather.

Fortunately for the Minutemen, a copy of the map which showed where all the water stations are located was published on Free Republic yesterday.

Unless those human rights officials now move their water stations, it is public knowledge. Hiding them from the Minutemen would likely make it harder for the illegals to find them too.

This is just too stupid to believe!

It's time to stop this racist "reconquista" invasion from Mexico.

I saw this map story on Fox yesterday. The map is very detailed with directions to water, emergency phone service, details as to how far a person should try to walk in a day, and where to contact churches for night.

I travel south Texas all the time, and I can show you many water stations, and phones located in areas that would amaze anyone.

Time for some non-Minutemen to help the Minutemen by taking care of the water holes. I would volunteer if I lived within 200 miles of the border.

Cherry bombs are a lot of fun in containers of water!!!

Minuteman Manhattan - shaken, not stirred:

Drop one emergency phone in one container of water. Light fuse on cherry bomb and drop into container with phone. Walk away 50 ft, turn head and wait for the mixing to start.

Is this the Mexican version of 'saving face'?

Yeah, Switch, that map. The dots are locations of illegal immigrant deaths, according to the article in our local paper.

I think just adding a couple of cups of Mexican tap water to the water tanks would do the trick.

I'd bet the farm that these maps get printed and handed out by some third party (at the Mexican governments request).

The org that wanted to distribute the maps is a legal US entity--who can be sued. Someone clued him in that if they encourage/enable/foment trespass on private property--they can get sued, "Intentional tort".

They already may find themselves in court. If I was a harassed rancher on the border dealing with this constant danger, I'd try to go after them.

That's the problem with being legal, as opposed to illegal. Y'got all these dang regulations, duties, responsibilities and liabilities. If you're illegal, you just ignore all that.

Gosh I love simplicity. Kudos on that idea, however, the Mexicans wouldn't be phased, but the phones would! LOL!!
