SAN FRANCISCO: The father of an American jailed for fighting alongside the Taliban in Afghanistan said on Thursday his son had been tortured and unjustly punished amid public hysteria over the Sept. 11 attacks.
The maltreatment and imprisonment of John Lindh was - and is - a human rights violation, Frank Lindh told the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco. It was based purely on an emotional response to the 9/11 attacks, not on an objective assessment of the facts of Johns case.
A 24-year-old Californian dubbed the American Taliban, John Walker Lindh was captured in 2001 and jailed for 20 years under a plea deal. US troops ousted the Taliban after they refused to hand over Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden. At times fighting back tears, the father accused US forces of torturing his son. He showed a photo of his sons body strapped to a stretcher at a military base in southern Afghanistan.
I do not want to dwell today on the militarys mistreatment of my son, but I will say categorically that he was treated in a way that is shameful to our nation and its ideals, said Lindh, an attorney at Pacific Gas & Electric.
John Lindh did not need to be tortured to tell the American forces where he had been and what he had seen, the father said. I cannot fathom why the military felt it necessary to humiliate him in this way. Reviled by many Americans as a traitor, Lindh agreed to a plea deal in which he was spared a possible life prison sentence and all terrorism charges against him were dropped.
In exchange, he pleaded guilty to two charges of aiding the Taliban and carrying explosives.

A 'father' who wasn't there for much of his kid's upbringing (or so I heard recently on a local Bay Area talk show) is now concerned about the treatment of his "son"?
Oh please, Dad , spare us the tears.

Frank Lindh "..When Frank Lindh left his family in 1997, it was to move in with a male companion. Yep. ... The man with whom Lindh lived has since been described as "a family friend," but other family friends say the men lived as a gay couple.
It would take a specialist in family issues to map the constellations of feelings and problems that would describe John Walker's path toward Islam in 1997, but sources close to the family say the father's turn of life from married man to modern gay man startled and flustered the 16-year-old.
Given the pummeling that the Walkers and marvy Marin County have taken from the national press over their wayward son, you can't blame the old man for wanting to suppress reporting on his sexuality. ...
Luke says: Prager often blasts the news media for reporting gossip about people's private sexual lives. Today he blasted the media for not reporting gossip.
Journalist Ed Walsh writes on Medianews.org: "I thought San Francisco Examiner columnist PJ Corkery did a great job reporting with the Johnny Walker/Lindh item on Tuesday. Since everyone is speculating about why Walker would convert to Islam and eventually join the Taliban, I think it is germane that Walker's conversion to an extremely antigay religion came at the same time his father separated from his mother to be in a gay relationship. Walker signing up with the Taliban is like the son of a Jewish man signing up with the Nazis..."

I read, also, that the father said that "he was proud of his son." Now I can understand him saying that he loved his son, but "proud of him?" For what? He's proud that his son joined a murderous cult and was plotting to murder other American citizens? What a sick creep.

His father, should be grateful that the son still lives.
I am a peaceful person, not given to violence, but I could shoot lindh in the head..I could..he is a TRAITOR.
Be thankful, homo-father, that the USA has become so pussy-fied. If it were my choice, the father would be mourning (or suing, as liberals do) the death of his son.

This is part of the reason why Pres. Bush should've listened to Ann Coulter on the matter.
If John Walker Lindh would've been executed, it would've put a damper on lots of traitor wannabes.

What torture, you ask?
http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/lindhplea.htm
On approximately December 7, Mr. Lindh was transferred by air to Camp Rhino south of Kandahar. During the flight, he was blindfolded and bound with plastic cuffs so tight that his hands turned blue. Soldiers transporting him threatened him with death and torture.
Upon arrival at Camp Rhino, Mr. Lindh's clothes were cut off him, his hands and feet were again shackled, and he was bound tightly with duct tape to a stretcher. Still blindfolded, completely naked, he was then placed in a metal shipping container. Press photographs of that container are attached as Ex. C.
Despite the extreme cold of Afghanistan nights in December, there was no heat source, lighting or insulation in the container. After some time, one blanket was placed over Mr. Lindh and another was put under the stretcher. Because of the extreme cold, the position in which he was bound, and the pain from the tightness of his shackles and his untreated wounds, Mr. Lindh slept little if at all during that period of time.
These conditions remained essentially the same for the following two to three days. At that point, still blindfolded, Mr. Lindh was taken in a state of complete exhaustion from the shipping container to a tent. When his blindfold was removed, he was greeted by an FBI agent who was facing him. When Mr. Lindh asked for a lawyer, he was told that there were no lawyers there. Mr. Lindh believed that the only way to escape the torture of his current circumstance was to do whatever the agent wanted. It as at this point that Mr. Lindh allegedly voluntarily waived of his right to remain silent and his right to counsel and answered questions by the FBI interrogator. After being interrogated by the agent, the conditions of Mr. Lindh's captivity did gradually begin to improve, and on approximately December 14, he was taken from Camp Rhino to the USS PELELIU. Only then did he receive needed medical attention, including surgery for his wounds.

John Walker Lindh should be publicly hanged from the neck until he is dead. Then his body should be buried in an unmarked grave at the nearest prison.

The Constitution does not apply to Foreign Agents fighting in Foreign lands. Also, since he was not a lawful combatant he is not covered by Geneva Conventions. The time he was back on U.S. Territory he had the rights of an American citizen.
In other words we did him a favor instead of sending him to GITMO

It would be more instructive instead to know how many people Jidad Johnny has tortured. Certainly, Little Johnny was directly complicit in the gruesome interrogation, torture, mutilation and murder of Mike Spann during the takeover at the prison.
There have probably been others whom he may have personally tortured as well. Infidels who convert to Islam and become Al Qaida often are required to prove their loyalty by performing appalling acts of torture and mutilation on helpless captives, thereby demonstrating to their handlers their loyalty and dedication to their newfound cause. My bet is, poor little innocent John Walker Lindt has been directly involved in much worse atrocities than have been perpetrated on him - if indeed any have been perpetrated on him, which I seriously doubt.
Instead, the MSM promotes crocodile tears on his behalf while his depraved father flings empty accusations.
If it were up to me, Lindt's head (both of them, actually) would be impaled on a pike on I-75, just south of Toledo, so all the Muslims heading to their expensive and in-your-face mosque located there could observe the ultimate fruits of their nasty cult and take a good lesson.
A pox on both father and son!

The MSM keeps calling this guy the "American Taliban." According to the SF people who apprehended him he only spoke Arabic, and he was with other foreign (non-Afgan) fighters, therefore he was really Al Queda not Taliban. Fortunately for him, he was photographed shortly after his capture, or the SF people on the ground would not have protected him from the fate that befell his comrades.
