Sorry, but I don' see the appeal in Howard. I don't spend enough time in my car, to justify spending money on radio, and I don't listen to the radio much at home.
I understand the satellite radio, just not Howard Stern.
Good riddance.
I know what you mean. I rented a car in Orlando, and was still selecting channels, by the time I got to Melbourne.
How many subscriptions will it take to make the half-billion dollar Stern contract a financial success?
Anyone have a good estimate or has one been published?
I know the newspaper model is that subscriptions are supposed to pay for the production and advertising is the gravy but we're in new territory now with the old MSM products crumbling.
Sirius is adding so many subscribers right now that they can't process them fast enough. It is also difficult to find Sirius receivers in the stores. For the first time, Sirius is outpacing XM in new subscribers. So it seems that Sirius just hit a grand slam by signing Stern.
I'm not a Stern fan but I must acknowledge the fact that this is paying off bigtime for Sirius. I am a Sirius subscriber (not because of Stern but because of the music stations) and I checked out the show briefly this morning on the way to work. It was a big yawnfest so far as I'm concerned. But lots of people seem to love it. I also heard Stern say he was going to have six commercials an hour starting tomorrow. Don't know if he was joking or not but that would not be a good move.
As for Limbaugh, I don't think he'll be on satellite radio anytime soon. Unlike Stern, Rush feels indebted to the radio industry for sticking with him all these years and making him the success that he has become. He won't be turning his back on terrestial radio until they are in their death throes (which might not be all that much longer).
After Rush's 5-year contract is done, if XM wants to really establish itself, it should hire Rush for a Billion. BUt, I suspect both XM and Sirius is permeated with liberal corporate middle-management suck-ups who will nix any thought of it.
From an investment angle, my take would have been to buy when Big Bird(Stern) announced his move, and to sell TODAY, before Sirius has to actually pay him.
He may drag a few people to subscribe, but most of his audience has been highschoolers who can't get a Sirius contract for the system, and college students who have to choose between eating and subscribing.
FYI, Sirius dropped Fox News this month.
On Larry King Dead last night, he said he was going to reveal a secret about himself.
Can you tell me what it was?
I have a bet with my wife that he is either bi or gay.
I refuse to get either XM or Sirius until they get a 24/7 Surf Music channel.
I think satellite radio will only be around for a few years until wireless internet takes over. Then, you can download video as well as audio. Then, I expect all current forms of TV to disappear.
I laughed as I watched a co-worker frantically trying to get their satellite radio antenna positioned to pick up the show. We must have something in the windows here that prevents reception. I find that my AM reception of Rush Limbaugh is excellent however. Time to turn the volume up a notch.. bahahaha..
I'll believe it when I see it.
It has been promised for a while.
I can't believe anyone would pay money to listen to Stern.
They said the same for satellite. Back in 1995, the thought was that cell phones should have video capability...
Exactly. I'll bet on the technology that's here and commercially operable.
Kowabunga dude! If they can have an all-Elvis channel, they can have something for the fans of Dick Dale, The Mermen, etc.
Yes! You must bow to the Nanny State. As all good Conservatives know, the Government should decide what is safe for you to hear.
I have XM playing contemporary rock channel 21 (maybe 22) daily. The playlist is extemely redundant and boring. On the other hand, once in a while the rap channel comes on for a few minutes and what comes on is amazing and really jumpstarts a workout (I hate rap.)
I think it would br great, if Rush moved off the broadcast radio and onto satellite only....that way, I wouldn't even be able to tune him in by mistake or have to hear him at work.....Hannity too.
