Santorum Wants Non-Partisan Panel To Evaluate Iraq War

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Rick Santorum yesterday wrote a letter to President Bush asking him to create an independent, non-partisan commission to objectively evaluate progress in Iraq.

The letter is a significant shift by the Pennsylvania Republican, whose stalwart support for nearly all aspects of the Bush administration's policies in Iraq could be a significant handicap in his race against state Treasurer Robert P. Casey this year if Pennsylvanians' support for the war continues to decline.

Mr. Santorum told the president that he was joining other members of Congress in their call for a panel that could "objectively and critically report" progress in Iraq to build Americans' confidence and trust in the mission.

Don't be too hard on Rick. He's been a private citizen, and he's been Royalty. No doubt which one he prefers.

No need for this, the media is doing a fine job.

The actions of a sure loser.

It was nice knowing you, Santorum. You are going to lose badly. At the very least, you could go out gracefully, instead of abandoning your principles in such a shameful way.

If the phrase non-partisan ever had any meaning in American politics, it certainly lost it decades ago. What a stupid suggestion. What a stupid idea.

Talk about stupid. In DC "non-partisan" always translates to "Democrats running rampant over jelly-spined RINOs".

Sen. Rick Santorum OK another covert left-wing fascist anti-American has shown his true colors - YELLOW - And these idiots want me to continue to give them money. Crap put the traitors out. At least we know that the democrats for what they are and we can try and limit their destruction of the country but when those that we elected and sent to congress to protect us covertly go over to the enemy then it is time to put them out of office and let the democrats have free rein.

The idiots in the US Senate have lost my money and my vote let them wear their knee pads and kneel in front of their democrat masters.

If I believed there were such a thing as a nonpartisan panel in Washington I would support this.

However, I think it would be just a waste of taxpayer money.

The liberal media has already made up it's mind on the war and is determined to spin it to look as bad as possible. It doesn't matter who's describing what's happening there, they will still report the bad things and ignore the good.

There is already plenty of facts and figures on the war and the situation in Iraq that are publicly available.

We don't need to pay a bunch of bureaucrats to look at them because their findings will be spun as well.

It appears that many in Congress do not do anything without a dollar so wonder who is paying for a "non-partisan panel"?

Exactly, that does not exist. What do they think they can find a panel that does not have a view on the Iraq war and take an objective look. Someone is smoking crack.

Haven't we had enough "panels" on this war already? It seems like there is always some commission, somewhere trying to drag this was through the mud. And then when they don't find anything, the media crows as if they did.

It's like the Doelfur Report. It flatly rejects so many of the crazy arguments we've heard from the left, and yet they just go ahead and pretend that it doesn't.
