What happens? Taccos are made with rat meat, quadruple in price, and people have to stand in line for six hours to buy them. Marxism!

"Mexico could be led by Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, a socialist who has never visited the United States."

He's the first Mexican alive not to have crossed our border, then.

Since when has a Communist government understood economics?

China!

Fully communist, CCP owns 50% or more of all businesses. It owns all patents developed by foreign companies there. It is the so called economic powerhouse of the world. The CCP has taken what the "free traders" have offered.

This won't happen. Since Mexico gains more from remittances their citizens send back from the US than they make from their tourism industry, they are not going to kill the goose that laid the golden egg.

Which is exactly what I said in the next sentence. Did you stop reading after sentence one and fail to read sentence two?

One thing the US will not tolerate is communism. If Mexico decides to be communist, which would be a bad move for the tenth richest country, the property owners would unite to put down the rabble. The US would be forced to side with the land owners and might eventually admit entire Mexican States into the US.

[ What Happens If Mexico Goes Communist? ]

They will trade one MOB for another MOB..
Democracy is ALWAYS MOB rule..

A political MOB vs. a Drug dealing MOB.. same thing U.S. wise..

The U.S. problem is the democrat party(and RINO) MOB..
The Mexican Mobsters will fight it out among themselves..
Is there enough popcorn to watch it is the question.?.

Assuming, of course, that the drug dealers and communists are not the same MOB already.
You know, like in Slovinia, Bosnia, and Albania.. and probably China.. NAH!, nevermind, you know they are alredy.. Evil is as evil does.. What was I thinking.?.

The Chinese have made the slight transition from Maoist communism to Gramscian socialism.

They are Nazis, now.

Good morning.
"China!"

China will have to go completely capitalist or go to war in order to maintain it's position, but I have to admit that you are pretty close.

Fully communist, CCP owns 50% or more of all businesses. It owns all patents developed by foreign companies there. It is the so called economic powerhouse of the world. The CCP has taken what the "free traders" have offered."

Then how is it that we still consider China "Communist"?

Seems to me they abandoned Communism. Strangely enough, this sort of coincided with the demise of the Soviet Union, didn't it? Think perhaps the ChiComs looked north, saw what glasnost did to Mother Russia and decided that if they were gonna go that way, they could at least arrest the landing?

Make no mistake: the Chinese adoption of capitalism is not intended to enrich the country (although that is a welcome by-product) it is to ensure the stranglehold on power currently enjoyed by the Communist elite.

The greatest threat to China is better-informed, more globally-aware population (which thanks to easier communications the Chinese population is becoming) seeking political rights. The Party is all for letting the people have the illusion of wealth as long as they can be bribed with that wealth into forgetting all about rights.

letmeguess? We'll have massive illegal immigration, but now the "refugee" loophole will come into play and all any Mexican will have to say is they are pro-democracy but would be oppressed if they returned home, or however you say that in Spanish.

Invade.

Regime change.

Heh. And while we're at it, maybe we should double the size of Texas like we did in 1842 (and manage those oil wells properly).

Gramscian Socialism? I think you misunderstand Gramscian Socialism if you posted that.

Antonio Gramsci merely pointed out the truism that if given a choice between democratic, capitalist government and communist/socialist rule, the majority of people would unerringly make the "wrong" choice and select the democratic capitalist model.

His thrust was that in order to "save the people from themselves' and simultaneously ensure that socialism still had a place at the table, that socialists should insinuate themselves into society's foundations: government ministries, educational facilities and foundations, charitiable foundations, public trusts, and the law courts, from which committed socialists could continue to work (mostly unobserved) from the inside, and surruptitiously funded by the public.

Nowhere did Gramsci envision the wholesale adoption of capitalism as a means of proping up socialism, or of keeping the socialist elite in power.

China is certainly not a Gramscian Socialist state.

It is, however, coming closer to the Nazi ideal. I'll give you that.

I was thinking the same thing, but I had the date wrong, I guess. I wrote 1842.

"U.S. relations with Latin America, which plunged to their lowest point in decades in 2005, will get still worse in 2006. "

This is REALLY a stupid statement - if it's the lowest point, how can it go any lower????
