For those who may be interested, here's a large composite 180 degree panarama I made during our last visit there in July.
Panarama Mt. St. Helens
That tower I spoke of that had been building behind the dome is visible in this higher res image.
All the way to the left is Spirit Lake. Most of the area as you approach the mountain is replanted with timber that is nearly 20 years old and thriving again. But the untouched blast area, even after all these years, is still moonscape.

Sorry, HairOfTheDog, from the post with the pictures I thought you didn't understand what the mountain was doing. You probably already have all of those links in my previous post.

Roger... see my above :~D
My only point about the lack of apparent change is that at many hundred dump trucks full per day for a year, you'd ~think~ the change would be noticeable. That's the thing about the scale of it that's hard to grasp.

Hummmmmm. Lava flowing in Hawaii and Mt. St. Helen's will contribute to The Sky is Falling Global Warming.

Oh, pipe it to New Orleans, and fill in the "bowl" so NOLA's above sea level.

By the way, please don't try and date that rock to prove anything after it cools... it's brand-new!

Again, it's hard to grasp the scale of it, even when you are looking at it.I can only imagine.

I used to have a vial of the ash from Mt. St. Helens eruption as a kid. Lacking any complex analytical equipment I tried to determine how it was different from regular fireplace ash.
My conclusion was that they both tasted the same......

The mountain is about 50 miles north of Vancouver and 100 miles south of Seattle. I had no idea that Vancouver was so far South of Seattle :) they only wish they were
