Because its observants are American citizens just like you are, and he is their president just like he is yours. So are the Klansmen who celebrate Klanzaa (invented holiday, just like Kwanzaa, to prove my point). Would you defend him in recognizing a holiday such as Klanzaa? No difference between the two.
