It was a record breaking weekend in the limited-release realm, as "Brokeback Mountain" and "Memoirs of a Geisha" both posted spectacular bows.

Focus' gay cowboy drama scored the highest per-screen average of any pic this year.

"Brokeback," which was named best picture by the L.A. Film Critics Assn. over the weekend, made an astounding $544,549 on five plays in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, for an average of $108,910.

I wonder what happens when they play it on more screens acrross the US?

Play it on five screens in those 3 cities and every rump ranger in town is going to stand in line for hours to see it.

And you wouldn't believe how tightly packed that line was.

(of course, not mentioned, was that a quarter of the gross came from outside sponsorships by condom companies..)

Asstounding they say, I say humbug....back to the closet with them all, and this time don't ever let them claim they just want to be part of the fabric of society again. What these sodomites want is nothing less than to gloat over their "superiority".

"Most of the shows in some theaters, and in other theaters all the shows, sold out all weekend long," noted Focus distribution topper Jack Foley. "This is the kind of film that is happening to us, as opposed to us driving the film."

Riiiiiiiiiiight. No, you're not driving the film. It's only had more ink splashed about it than any other movie this year: "It's bold! It's courageous! It breaks taboos! It's about time!" ad nauseum.

Give it national distribution and they'll see this film has very limited appeal.

But they've already accomplished their goal. They got the news services to write the story they wanted: Cowpoke Humpty Hump is a tremendous success! Look at all the money made in those 5 theaters (in heavily homo-populated territory).

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if these were invitation-only screenings, catered affairs, where it cost $50 a ticket to get in. Anything to inflate the numbers.

It will bomb. It premiered in the top 3 cities with biggest homo populations in the US. They did this on purpose to give it some hype, before its released nationally and makes squat.

Even if packed night and day there is no way that many people saw it on 5 screens. Those tickets were being sold in bulk to those organizations. It's a scam or something

Exactly. The sodomites will see it a few times with various "dates" and then it will disappear.

Hysterical, a freeper predicted a 'limited release' in these cities. Too funny, too predictable.

You'd think they'd at least open it in Chicago or something.

Let me guess as to what happens when this one debuts in Wyoming... ;)
