Rowling is basically in her writing following the Hero Myth. You can't kill off your hero at the end of his journey. It simply isn't done...

Beowulf.

Arthur.

Hamlet.

Was Dumbledore begging for his life or was he begging Snape to do what he had instructed him to do, knowing that he (Dumbledore) had discovered a defense against the killing curse (but not tested it)?

Precisely

No kidding. Do you mean like the Ludlum books that are coming from the Great Beyond? I found The Road to Gandolfo in a box next to the Christmas ornaments. YES!!! A real Ludlum!

She has hinted that there might be a book that explores some of the characters a bit deeper.

Ah yes, 'Fear and Loathing in Hogsmead'. Considered by many to be the epitome of Gonzo-Wiazrd journalism whiles others see it as a drug induced confession about drugs and carnal knowledge of trolls. Was knocked off the best seller list by the 'Madisons of Bridge County' and the 'Liars and the lying, laying, luring English Teachers who conjugate verbs in front of your children'. /smart-arse-off

Let's see. Voldemort was obviously going to use Harry's death to create a (his final?) horcrux, but something went terribly wrong. Instead the final horcrux was Nagini the snake created when he killed the groundskeeper.

According to Gilbert Godfrey that last book will be called The Goblet of Fiber because of Harry's advanced age.

D. does not beg for his life - he's stated more than once that death is nothing more than another thing to do, a new adventure maybe. He was clearly begging for Snape to kill him.

Your Ginny observation: I feel bad to say it, but it crossed my mind. Poor girl, she's not horrid looking or anything, but as she ages she's growing plainer and plainer. If she tips the balance into death-eater-ugly, its going to be less immediately believable that they fall in love - this is the movies, afterall. Beauty and pleasant smiles are what the director has to rely on (mostly) with only 2 hrs to work with.

I just hope she doesn't make Harry gay in the end, and have him convert to Islam.

I'm glad I read the entire thread before I quoted Godfry (LOL)...huge Harry Potter and JKR fan here. To JKR's credit (and bank account) she has brought an entire to love reading. Can't argue with that.

Yes, but was he begging Snape to kill him to protect Draco Malfoy or to complete the plan?

I think that Dumbledore is definately dead. I think he was dying anyway. In the first book, when the philosophers stone was destroyed, Dumbledore mentioned to Harry that only one person was using the stone to extend their life and that person had enough potion to keep alive long enough to put their affairs in order. I think the person named was really Dumbledore. So he's been dying since the end of book 1.

Knowing he was going to die anyway, he and Snape hatched the plot to ensure the bad guys believed that Snape was evil by having Snape kill Dumbledore. Snape's the good guy in all this and Dumbledore is worm-food.

P.S. The Ginny character DOES look like the actor who plays Arthur Weasley.

The Goblet of Fiber .....LOL! Like it or not, big bucks cause sequels. Oh, and Rowling may want to read S. King's book Misery very carefully (successful author kills off popular character, then runs into his "number 1 fan").

"Will the child actress who plays Ginny Weasley get any prettier or are is Harry destined to have to date a homely girl?"

LOL! One problem with casting a kid before the rest of the books are written - Or she takes a tumble from the ugly tree.

Dave Kopel, a national review writer has written a fantastic piece on Harry and company. Here's the link:

"audio versions"

I've never actually read any of the books. I've listened to them all on tape. Jim Dale is a wonderful reader. I just wish I had kept the first three instead of selling them on eBay.

I think Mr. Dale (a WONDERFUL reader by the way) is forgetting that these are Children's books. It is very rare that a Children's Author kills off the main character (it can happen, yes, but it is rare).

Also, she said from the beginning that there would only be seven books, she doesn't need to kill him to end the series, so why? Why make the fans angry? A good novelist always has an answer to 'why?'.

Besides, it is going to turn out that Dumbledore's Ghost is going to help Harry through the last year (shades of Obi-Wan and Luke), Snape is going to kill off Voldemort but be killed in the process, Harry will run off with Jenny, and all will be happy but 'scarred' for life.

JK says there are clues as to Harry's fate already
included in the books. I suggest that great line
at the end of COS certainly stands as a clue.
It's the scene where Harry is present when Dumbledor
faces down Lucius Malfoy, insinuating that the
Hogwarts Master KNOWS who planted Tom Riddle's
Diary inside the castle. The defiant Malfoy asks
WHO will be here to protect the school once AD
is gone. As Albus Dumbledore smiles, the reply
from Harry is, and adamant "Don't worry, I WILL!"

Again, WHY in HBP should AD begin the new
tack of personally instructing Harry whereby he
is to master magical arts that are denied other
students?

I'm a Great Grandfather, and I've read them all
twice. I'm sure if avid fans went back,
specifically looking for those clues about Harry's
future, quite a list would be compiled.
