They are awfully bold. Seriously, I think it's time Christians stop buying so many Christmas items anyway. Celebrate the Whoville way.
That's what irks me, too. On their Christmas pages they should say, "Merry Christmas", to honor those customers. Same goes for those pages denoting Kwanza (as if that's a real holiday) gifts to say, "Happy Kwanza" or whatever holiday they are catering to.
Even if I accepted "holiday shopping" as a generic marketing excuse, I do not tolerate snide retorts from customer service reps about how not mentioning Christmas is what Jesus would want. And that gently censoring any mention of the name of Christ lest others be offended, is emblematic of true Christian values.
Separation of church and state aside, this season is truly showing me the need to separate shopper from "PC" commercial ventures using my religious beliefs about the reason for the season - selectively - merely as a marketing tool.
Corporate America has succumbed to the ACLU in making CHRISTMAS one giant secular mindless winter festival.
May Lands End have good luck selling kwanzaa parkas and winter solstice thermal underwear.
I don't even know what a Land's End is or what they sell for that matter, but if ANY store wants my money this Christmas, they will acknowledge Christmas. That's MY freedom of choice.
I throw out all cards that say holiday or season greetings.
It would be quite instructive if you could "re-publish" the Land's End response you got. So we could ALL be suitably chastised and enlightened about being better "Christians", of course.
That reminds me of the post office and their stupid eid stamps. They don't have Christmas stamps, only generic holiday ones.
I only buy religious Christmas cards and send them to everyone.
Once upon a time, when I was young and stupid, I would buy religious cards for my Christian friends, and cutsie ones for everyone else.
However, I have matured.
just emailed to ask which holiday they're celebrating? If not Christmas, guess they don't have any items I can buy as Christmas presents. Also asked that they remove me from their mailing list.
Some people may think this is trivial. But, enough is enough. Would they apply this logic to Hannukah, Kwanza or Ramadan? Seriously, doubt it.
I am a *big time*, as in I spend way too much money on their stuff, Land's end customer and I called them to give them feedback. They have always been a top notch company and I have faith that they will figure something out to please their marketing division and their customers. My advice: say it all and use the word CHRISTMAS- I made sure to give them my customer #,,, that helps a bit.
And here's your opportunity to respond. That's a First Amendment right that I hope you will exercise.
Thanks, NYer. I just sent an email and told them I wasn't interested in any of their catalogues as long as any of them ignore Christmas.
Weird thing is, Sears owns Land's End and on Sears' page there is a "We wish you a Merry Christmas" and a link to the "Christmas Store". Sears got it right but their subsidary couldn't?
If that's on the Sears page then it's brand new. They were all into wishes come true nonsense last I looked. Their Christmas trees are called Wishing trees.
Merry Christmas!
For better or worse (probably worse as my frame of mind on this issue has devolved considerably each time I hear of new PC absurdities), what I read out of (or perhaps in to) that statement is: Christians should love everyone so much we don't mind if we are denigrated and ridiculed and hounded from the public discourse.
I strongly believe that the aim of secularists is to eradicate all references to Christianity from the public arena under the guise of religious freedom.
Maybe Chanukah? Just a guess.
