CNN SINKS NAVY
NRO ^

Posted on 11/30/2005 3:14:34 PM PST by hipaatwo

A person who was at Annapolis today sent me the following about the AP photo CNN ran on its web site of Midshipmen asleep in the auditorium before the President’s speech:

This is bias. The mids started arriving at 0630 in the auditorium. Most have barely gotten any sleep because it's Army-Navy week. Almost all the mids were using the down time to get some rest while they waited the several hours. They were clearly all awake by 9:30 as things started to happen and certain all were awake for the speech.
As everyone who has attended a service academy will tell you, there is nothing more cherished than rack time. But CNN does a disservice to the Naval Academy to imply the mids would sprawl out asleep in the presence of the Commander in Chief. I think CNN owes these fine young Americans an apology.

I saw that earlier. That's why I wanted this to have a separate thread.

Great thread! Old stories of how many ways to nap while hurrying up to wait or even while marching on parade! ;)

I'm just surprised the caption did not imply it was during the speech.

Count on CNN to never miss a chance to knock the military.

I think everyone knows the trick of taking a "power nap".
Just a few minutes of sleep can totally refresh you.

To imply that the midshipmen catching a few Zees is disrespectful to the President is asinine.

I just heard the top-of-the-hour newscast out of WABC New York. After the President's speech, ABC ran right over to the Iraq Ministry of Defense and got a quote to the effect that "the Iraqi army is nowhere near prepared to fight." They were trumpeting this fact with glee, as though it contradicted statements made by President Bush. I heard most of the speech this morning; the President did not say that the Iraqi army was ready to take over defense of the country; to the contrary, he cited specific units and battalions that were prepared.

The fact that they are grasping at straws like this shows how effective the speech was, and how desperate the MSM/liberals are to keep their sorry excuse for an argument from collapsing.

This is in retaliation for the the Cindy Sheehan photo-op over the Thanksgiving weekend.

I tried a google news search for quotes from the Presidents speech "Others have died for my freedom". You cannot find this on NYT, AP, Reuters. They are panning the text of the speech.

As a former Infantryman and Ranger I know all about the refreshing qualities of a cat nap. Infantrymen almost all gain the ability to just conk out anywhere in seconds and then snap awake completely alert later. I can still do that.

The number two rule in the service, right behind never volunteer, is sleep and eat every chance you get, you never know when the next opportunity may come.

Exactly. Somehow, I think this Commander in Chief would give his approval of a nap before his arrival.

God how I HATE the media.

Your right. The story didn't cover what the studs were doing before the visit.
