Midshipmen catch naps as they wait for more than an hour for U.S. President George W.
Bush to deliver an address on the war in Iraq at the U.S. Naval Academy in
Annapolis, Maryland November 30, 2005. Trying to counter critics of his war
strategy, Bush vowed on Wednesday that U.S. forces will not cut and run from Iraq
but said improvements in Iraqi security forces may clear the way for a reduction in
U.S. troops. REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst

That's probably the longest continuous sleep they've had since before their freshman year.

Reuters is consistent. They consistently suck.

Looks like some midshipmen need their butts kicked.

If the President is going to give a speech to your group (any group) the press will be there. They will take pictures of you if you do anything out of order to make the President look bad. Therefore don't do anything out of order.

The speech was to start at 0945. Were they kept waiting, or were they there early?

I agree, Reuters sucks. Obviously they only published the pictures as an attempt to slam Bush.

But, I still think the pictures are pretty funny. And check out the hottie, second picture, front row, right.

Are they sure this was BEFORE Bush's speech?

I would think it was during Kerry's response.

[Heck. They're college kids. College kids live on little sleep. They get a quick nap whenever they can.]

I am sure that Rueters views this as a negative; however, learning to catch a little shut-eye when possible is a great skill for most and can be essential for these future leaders.

The president is always on time. Most likely they were there early

They were probably ordered there early, to make sure everyone was seated when the President spoke. When you're in the military you "hurry up and wait" a lot, and catching a nap is a popular way to kill that time.

You catch naps whenever you can. I remember the days of sleeping while standing in formation.

Cat naps are a skill you acquire quickly in the military. Good sleep is hard to come by.

No, No they're ok. As many of you know, they isolate/quarantine large crowds for security sake. Many hours locked up in an auditorium is the worst...especially for those involved in rigorous military training.
