In your Nov. 17 (San Diego UNION)editorial, "No half-baked bills," you lament the lack of a comprehensive immigration bill "that does everything that needs to be done to reform a broken immigration system." Yet the five requirements identified are all contained in the Comprehensive Enforcement and Immigration Reform Act (S1438) that Sen. Jon Kyl, R-Arizona, and I introduced earlier this year. For example, the Cornyn-Kyl bill contains:
Increases in Border Patrol agents. The bill authorizes an additional 10,000 Border Patrol agents over the next five years, along with additional detention beds, facilities and vehicles. In short, the border security provisions will enable the U.S. government to regain control over the border.
Additional work-site enforcement agents. The bill authorizes an additional 10,000 investigative agents dedicated to work-site enforcement and ensuring that all employers operate on a level playing field.
Highly punitive and easily enforceable employer sanctions. The Cornyn-Kyl bill would require all employers to participate in an electronic verification system that would provide instantaneous confirmation to the employer of the worker's status. All employers must be held accountable, but first the government must provide verification tools to employers.
Guest workers for employers who need the manpower. The Cornyn-Kyl bill creates a new, workable and secure temporary worker visa.
Tamper-proof identification card. The Cornyn-Kyl bill requires the Department of Homeland Security to issue machine-readable, biometric identification cards to all foreign workers.
Finally, the editorial described the Cornyn-Kyl bill as neither realistic nor workable because it would require illegal aliens once within a five-year transition period to depart and reenter the country legally. I disagree. Illegal aliens live outside the protection of the law; as a result, hundreds die each year trying to cross the border, and many here suffer abuse and discrimination in the workplace. Our proposal would not force them to abandon their dream of living in America, but it would ask them to achieve that goal like all other immigrants: by entering the country legally.

The Clinton's did damage to and stole articles from the White House when GW was elected. PROSECUTION?--NO! SAndy Berger steals top secret papers. PROSECUTION? --NO! As revealed this past week a Smuggler has to bring in a magic double digit number of illegals BEFORE any prosecution is contemplated.
So you don't like this bill? What is the solution?
Bill is BS...does nothing to stop the anchor baby loop hole.
To start: Enforce existing laws.
Such as?
That's pending in a separate bill.
It's a start.
No blanket amnesty for those illegals currently in the US.
Stop the anchor baby nonsense.
Impeach them all and defend the border.
Take a look at the True Enforcement Bill, at http://www.fairus.org. This is the first immigration reform bill that FAIR, a well known immigration reform organization, is supporting.
It allows CITIZENS to sue businesses for hiring illegals, and deals with the anchor baby problem. It isn't perfect, but is the best thus far.
this bill is total BS and those pushing it
know this. My question is why are there
people pushing this bill when it is total BS?
What's BS about it?
Agreed.
This is an amnesty bill, and therein is the BS.
This bill is BS.
Another bunch of blather, no substance, amnesty,
no teeth, we need all the illegals we can muster
for those poor employers who can find employees
who are American citizens......BS
I don't buy into BS, so I'm not buying into this
Bill
can find
should be
can't find American Citizens
I'll be happy to discuss this with you if you
can prove to me .... this bill isn't.......
a back-door amnesty.

The True Enforcement Bill is simple and focused, I like it. I like Tancredo's too. It ends Anchor Babies as well, but that provision is one thing that would cause problems for it.
The only way any of these bills will work is if there is no assumption the "Guest Worker" will be honest and play by the rules. They will not, so any program better provide for lots of enforcement officers.
How many times have you been here before and banned?
ping
That is the most rational approach right now!
BTTT
Oh sure. The same crowd that can't find an illegal to deport is going to create a "temporary" worker visa. Sorry, no deal. Enforce the law as it is now, and quit trying to softsoap us with more lies.
Don't the Quislings know what the existing law is?
BTTT
We don't need any more "new" laws. The federal government won't even enforce the ones we have because they're too busy bending over backwards to protect slave labor.
Unless I see immediate MASS DEPORTATIONS OF ALL ILLEGAL ALIENS, I will not believe a word of it.
I should report you...
for I've never been here as a member before,
although I lurked for six or seven years....
I know you from previous posts....
and I know you seek to cause trouble....
Again, I should report you, but I'll wait.
We're glad to hear you speak out now! Welcome!
Problem is, the weakest, most convoluted and unenforceable plan is the only one most will support because VERY few -Tancredo and maybe a couple others- really want to end illegal immigration and reform legal immigration.
"All employers must be held accountable, but first the government must provide verification tools to employers."
Nice little Catch 22 there. What about deportation? School, medical, service cost? What about anchor babies, welfare, WIC, section 8 housing and HUD funding illegals into homes?
None of these issues are addressed. Enforce the laws on the books. Congress is empowered to defend this nation from invasion, peaceful, hostile, or otherwise.
Protect our borders and coastlines from all foreign invaders!
Support our Minutemen Patriots!
Be Ever Vigilant ~ Bump!
Enforce current immigration laws that are on the books.
Cornyn again. He, under the guidance of the Whitehouse, plans on erasing our borders to implement the North American Union.
