These people claim their opponents don't understand. They're the ones lacking knowledge of bears. Bear scientists know how many bears can be sustained in a square mile, 10 square miles, etc.
The question then becomes, what is the range? State forests? All forests? Suburbs? Pinelands? Assunpink? I-95?
First, we have to agree on the range. Do we want bears all over the most populous state in the nation or just in the mountainous western sector?
Determine the acreage that you want supporting bears, then multiply by the sustainable number which I think is around 3.5 bears per square mile but Fish and Game can tell you.
More weight should be put upon the opinions of those who live in the projected bear range. In other words, Princetonians should not be determining whether we have bears walking around beautiful downtown Boonton.
These same protesters would be the first to have a pants-wetting cow when they wake up to find a bear rummaging through their trash cans. Call the police! No, I don't want it shot...I want it arrested! No, I mean I just want it to be taken away...to a bear hotel, or something. I live next to people who pay taxes!
LOL! Probably not a good idea.
