John Murtha narrowly won a special election in 1974 and became the first Vietnam veteran to serve in the U.S. House. During his legislative career, Murtha has been a House insider, loyal to the Democratic leadership and a favorite of then-House Speaker Tip O'Neill, D-Mass. In the probe of what became known as the Abscam bribery scandal, Murtha was the only congressman involved in the complex case to emerge without facing criminal charges. He declared he was innocent, saying he had "met with two men who I believed had a substantial line of credit that could provide up to 1,000 jobs for the district. I broke no law. I took no money." A grand jury and the House ethics panel cleared Murtha of any wrongdoing.

The absurdity of watching reporters skeptically grilling four-star generals, chests all but obscured by rows of medals, and then fawning over the tactical assessment advanced by a 73 year-old veteran of a forty-year-old war would, as I noted, be funny, if it weren't so serious. There ought to be a test that could be administered to all members of Congress to determine if they are playing with 52 cards! In tha case of Murtha, I suspect he is not.....

No, it doesn't surprise me at all that he would wuss out and hide behind Pelosi's skirt. Murtha has no spine, everyone knows that. Lee, on the other hand, surprises me. She had enough gumption to be the sole vote against the invasion of Afghanistan, but she doesn't have the firmness of purpose to vote for immediate withdrawal from Iraq.
I just had her figured for actually being consistent in her politics, suck as much as they may. She struck me as having a voter base far enough to the left that would tolerate that sort of thing.

(The military). . . They have become the enemy." The enemy of who? That statement, alone, encapsulates the feelings of the democrat liberals towards our military!!! Murtha is a "blame America first" lib and a non-patriot! I cannot tell you how much I hold this "cut and run coward" in disdain!
