Newdow Files Suit To Take National Motto Off Currency
American Family Association ^ | 11/04/05 | AP/Reuters

Posted on 11/15/2005 6:44:48 AM PST by freema

Michael Newdow, who has already filed a suit to take "under God" out of the Pledge of Allegiance, is now suing to remove our national motto from our currency.

Newdow told the ACLU of Oklahoma that the national motto on U.S. currency is a violation of the separation of church and state. He is offended because he is an atheist. He wants to use the Federal courts to make his atheism the official religion of America.

Newdow filed in the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals which recently ruled that judges, not parents, have the final say in what will be taught school children concerning sex education. These same liberal judges supported Newdow and ruled that the phrase "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance was unconstitutional. That suit was dismissed due to a technicality so Newdow sued again.

The 9th U.S. Circuit is expected to agree with Newdow. The case will then go to the U.S. Supreme Court for final action.

Help us secure one million signatures on the petition below to stop Newdow. Remember that only one person—Madelyn Murray O'Hare—was able to get prayer in schools banned. We must not allow one person—Newdow—to get our national motto removed from our currency by our silence.

During the last session of Congress, Representative Chip Pickering introduced a constitutional amendment to guarantee the right to use and recite the motto and the Pledge of Allegiance. Your petition will encourage Rep. Pickering to re-introduce his constitutional amendment in the present session of Congress and send a message to the liberal judges of the 9th U.S. Circuit.

Please act quickly, and forward this to friends and family.

Click here to sign the petition now! http://www.afa.net/petitions/signpetition.asp?id=1460

Sincerely,

Don

Donald E. Wildmon, Founder and Chairman American Family Association

P.S. Please forward this e-mail message to your family and friends!

The way I understand it, there are actually 2 mottos. In God We Trust became the second motto, after E Pluribus Unum, in the 50s.

Get a job dude and move on doing something constructive with your life for GOD'S sake. If the currency design is bothering you so much you better go see and talk with someone cause you've got a problem. A REAL problem.

Why are atheists so offended whenever someone mentions something that they don't even believe in? Wait, don't tell me, I know the answer.

Anyway, if this puke is offended by our money then I have a simple soulution for him: give the money you have to me if it bothers you so much. This way he won't have to read those words that offend him so much. Problem solved.

When will these a**hats understand that God was constantly mentioned by the founding fathers and that they never intended a completely atheist state.

There is no "separation of church and state" in the constitution and any idiot with reading ability can see that. But I suppose libs have repeated the line so many times that it becomes truth. I remember learning history in NYC public schools and all my Lib teachers would say the "separation" line. Most people accept it as fact.

I'm not a religious person but these ACLU clowns get me steamed by lying about our country's history to further their homosexual and Marxist agenda.

Why is the word "treason" still in the English dictionary? There is no such thing as treason in the US. It has no meaning anymore.

I saw him discussing this intention of his yesterday morning. He claimed that by having "in God we trust" on US currency made him a second class citizen and the evidence of him being a second class citizen was that he couldn't get elected. Of all the possible reasons to change our currency the one he chose...that he couldn't become elected is the most asinine. He can't get elected because he's "out of the mainstream" to borrow a phrase from the democrats.

I'm sure his kindergarten reports must have read "doesn't play well with others".

I don't know that he was never married, but there's this from CNN from last year's SCOTUS dismissal (http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/06/14/scotus.pledge/:
Newdow never married the mother of the child and the two are in a battle over his parental rights.

The mother, Sandra Banning, has said she has no problem with her daughter reciting the full pledge and argued that Newdow had no right to bring the case.

I doubt it's that he can't be elected. He probably can't get hired. So you pay a couple hundred dollars, file a lawsuit and then proceed to fundraise to support you and your lawsuit for the next couple of years. It's a scam but a legal one.

As to being offended by the mention of God, he ought to be patient and he will get his wish--because where's he's going someday, there really is no God. At least not where he can see Him.

Frivolous lawsuits are rather narrowly construed and most courts will bend over backwards to avoid finding frivolous claims (unless an attorney really ticks them off somehow). This one would be considered in the "public interest". The lawsuit is not legally frivolous but it is frivolous in that no reasonable person would put their own money behind such a lawsuit unless there was some pot of gold backing it. Think of all the things that offend you. Would you be willing to pay thousands of dollars to go to court to stop them?

Newdow has the advantage of no legal fees and only out-of-pocket costs and he is up and running as a "cause" to support. That's the scam part. He can claim to be aggrieved, be the plaintiff and attorney and thereby put himself to work, paying himself from the money he raises, and, not incidentally, not having to share any money award he might claim and get. Now I haven't heard whether he will claim monetary damages but it doesn't matter. Plenty of money will be flowing from the groups who want to banish God from society.

Well, at the risk of being flamed....If we are not going to be a Christian nation and accept that Muslims, Hindus, and Wiccans, and every other religion has the right to tell Christians to stuff it, we cannot ethically put such Christian statements on our currency.

Frankly, I am all for people having faith in whatever religion they chose as no other person has the right to tell them any different, but we should declare ourselves a Christian nation and hold on to our traditions, morals, and values as Christians. Christianity is a key component in what made this country great and every other religion seems to want to tear that greatness away.

I read you on the scam. The scum!

But it seems that, having already lost the "under God" suit, Newdow is just wasting the court's time.
