I beg to differ. The problems, especially the pass rush on Bledsoe, were all coming from the hole left by Adams' absence (aka Torrin Tucker).
I think they were trying to be cute and get the first down with the 'Boys having only one timeout and the two minute warning left. Bonehead move.
But let's not forget trying a 60 yard field goal. They only time you try one of those is when the score is tied or at the end of the half. Even then, if a guy is going back to grab it, you snap it directly to the kicker and have him angle a pooch punt out of bounds.
Anyway, Philly should have determined which of their backups had the stronger arm and threw it towards the end zone and hope for a catch or pass interference.
Nothing quite like being cute to lose a game. Even if they weren't running well against Dallas (ie if it were any other game they've played this season), you run it twice. Even if it gets stuffed the first run forces the Cowboys to use their last time out, the second run allows you to run the clock to the point where the 2-minute hits while the kick is in the air, so Dallas gets the ball inside their own 20 with about 1:58 no time-outs and having to have a TD. Just plain dumb. And of course the pass was an out pattern that almost always result in play going out of bounds so it would have stopped the clock anyway. If you made a list of the 5 absolutely worst plays to call in that situation the play the called would definitely be on the list. Sometimes doing what's unexpected is good, but sometimes you have to stop and think that the reason the other team is expecting play X (in this case run it between the tackles) is because play X is exactly the right call. Yeah blame Donovan for getting picked but also blame the coaching staff for calling the worst play imaginable in that situation.
You nailed it. I wonder who called the play. The coach? The offensive coordinator? McNabb himself? That person should have his head examined.
Well, Adams is certainly a big 'hole. (Couldn't resist). Of course you can't lose a pro-bowler---even an inconsistent one---and hope to see the same protection.
Yes, that would probably be a good idea to give Thursday teams their bye the week before the game, although they do get a nice break after the T-day game.
It didn't sound right that Pitt would play on MNF then on Thursday, so I checked and they actually played on Sunday that week, not Monday. Steelers won at home over Jax 30-15. That sure was a fiasco, though, with the coin toss in OT between Pitt and Detroit. There have been some very unforgettable NFL moments in these T-day games and that was one of them.
Must have been Sunday night, I know they were in primetime, even the talking heads were discussing how lame their schedule was. Sometimes they allow the computer to randomize too much. The break after Thanksgiving is nice but getting to it sucks, Dallas and Detroit have a better record on those games than the league average for home games, goes to show that if you're going to have an aweful schedule (which leading up to Thanksgiving always is) it's better to end it at home than on the road. What's funny is I don't like Detroit or Dallas but a Thanksgiving without those games just doesn't seem right.
Umm, no, it wasn't Sunday night, either. The Saints and 49ers played on Sunday night that week. Could have been a late afternoon game.
Anyway, I don't know how they selected Dallas and Detroit to always host Thanksgiving Day games. Didn't the Pilgrims and Indians get together for the first T-giving? I think the REDSKINS and PATRIOTS would be appropriate teams to host Thanksgiving Day games. ;-)
I swear it was a night game, I remember it. Must be getting old, all these games are blending together.
Well it starts with the Lions waaaaaaaay back in the early days of the NFL, not sure how they got it but it was a tradition by the time the NFL hit TV. Then I think the Cowboys got it as part of that whole America's team thing. I read a whole big long article on it a couple years ago, but you see how great my memory is.
That's a pretty bold prediction. USC's defense is suspect and Vince Young isn't. I hope you have to eat those words :)
There, I fixed it for ya.
I hate this thread.
TAMU... BTHO tu!
p.s. Dat... can offer some advice to A&M's defensive co-ordinator Carl Torbush and to the Wrecking Crew... he/they sure could use it for the game against the sips.
