LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Los Angeles Times is changing the look and content of its opinion-editorial pages, a plan that includes dropping Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist Michael Ramirez and longtime columnist Robert Scheer.
The changes come three months after former political commentator and columnist Michael Kinsley resigned as the paper's editorial and opinion editor. Kinsley spent 15 months at the Times and was replaced by Martinez.

The message. The LA Times will go belly up if it continues its headlong dash to the left.
You talk as if sometime in recent history they were in the "center."
Gotta hit that "under 95" demographic.....
Robert Scheer dropped by the LA Slimes? Maybe now the paper's collective IQ will finally go into double-digits!
Michael Ramirez is the BEST political cartoonist.
Exactly. Ramirez was the only thing the LA Times had going for it.
Too little, too late. they probably have more paper rolls on hand than they can burn. And since circulation is down they're sitting on expensive dead paper inventory even before you get to editorials.
I doubt it unless they also get rid of his radical feminist/marxist wife who has built a cozy little power structure there. I imagine Scheer has a golden parachute that will allow him to continue to live in the luxury provided by the capitalist running dogs he professes to hate.
The LA Time endorsed the redistricting, teacher tenure (I think) and union dues initiatives. It didn't matter a wit. Newpaper editorials don't matter a wit. Nobody reads them, or if they do, cares about them, anymore. Cheers.
The only reason the Times endorsed those measures was because they knew the measures were going down to defeat, so they figured they could pretend to be "balanced" by endorsing them with no harm done. As far as they were concerned, the only thing the special election was about was destroying Arnold Schwarzenegger - all else was a very distant second.
as far as Scheer being gone from their pages, don't bet on it. I'll bet he's already signed to a syndication deal, and that the LAT will continue to run his columns by picking them up from the syndicate.
Like rearranging the deck chairs on a ship that has hit an iceberg.....

"Maybe if we moved the chairs to the aft deck...what do you think?"
Robert Scheer is far to the left of both Stalin and Mao.
The truth is that Scheer is not a liberal, but a hard socialist like Hillary. The paper moved up a tiny notch in my credibility rating by firing him. Let him go get a job at ANSWER or someplace along those lines.
True. I once had to choose cartoons for an editorial page and his were the best of those we considered. A real loss. Let the lefties rant and give us conservative voices. The worse the lefties are, the clearer their mania is to the public. And there are few enough conservative voices that getting rid of any is not helpful.
Now KCRW should show the self-loathing Scheer the door:
Left, Right & Center: Provocative, up-to-the-minute, alive and witty, KCRW's weekly confrontation over politics, policy and popular culture proves those with impeccable credentials needn't lack personality. Featuring four of the most insightful news analysts anywhere, this weekly "love-hate relationship of the air" reaches about 50,000 of the most influential radio listeners in Southern California.
Hosted by: R.Scheer, A.Huffington, M.Miller & T.Blankley
His cartoons were really good during the Recall campaign two years ago. I saw the images linked on FR recall threads, although I never actually saw the cartoons inside the printed LAT, because I didn't know where in the paper to look.
Down with Scheer!
I also think the Scheer-dump is too good to be true.
Must be some trick
".. ROBERT SCHEER'S national column appears in the Los Angeles Times every Tuesday and is distributed by Creators Syndicate to more than 20 metropolitan dailies across the United States..."
Ramirez is the only thing worth reading in that rag.
Will wonders never cease. I can't believe they're letting Scheer grow. They must be finally waking up to the reality of their dropping circulation numbers.
Make that "letting Scheer go," not grow!
Can't have Michael Ramirez any more, he's too "right wing" for the L.A. Slimes.
I would love to know the inside scoop on why Kinsley left. I think he was moving too close to the "center".
They found out that someone on FR approved of him.
