Study: Twice as Much Sex on TV

Television these days is loaded with sex, sex, sex - double the number of sex scenes aired seven years ago, says a study out Wednesday. And the number of shows that include "safer sex" messages has leveled off, it said.

There were nearly 3,800 scenes with sexual content spotted in more than 1,100 shows researchers studied, up from about 1,900 such scenes in 1998, the first year of the Kaiser Family Foundation survey.

Vicky Rideout, a vice president at Kaiser, says the number of shows that included a message about the risks and responsibilities of sex is still very small, and has remained flat since 2002.

. . . more than 1,100 shows researchers studied . . .

I quit watching television about 5 years ago. Even Fox, cause ya can't quit unless you quit. Partially because of the prevalence even then of the subject of this article, but also because the "news" (hahaha) is so biased. Most everything else was just so inane. I can't imagine a job which would requireme to watch.

I also stopped watching a few years ago....it is all trash and a huge waste of time and brain cells. It is cultural Marxism at work.

Not true, I never have sex on the television. I am afraid of breaking it. Plus you try to fit on a 52 inch wide screen on a pedestal.

The must be using one of those wide screen televisions then. OR they're just really still when they do it.

Prime time comedy is very flippant about sex. If people carried on the same conversations that they hear on TV at work they would find themselves out on the pavement in no time. I know teen agers are getting an ear full.

Our house started Nov 02 of this year when we had them yank out the cable. I found I almost never watched it -- for the reasons you listed above + those History Channel, A&E, etc. "documentaries" were getting to be a joke + how many home/personal make-overs do they think a person wants to watch? -- and my husband pretty much just used TV for backround noise. (That's some expensive backround noise!) Between NetFlik and the internet we don't miss cable at all.
