I just talked to my French neighbor - who has extensive family throughout the country and watches French TV every night. Her attitude is that it's just Arab scum behaving as they usually do. Nothing serious, nothing to worry about. She could be wrong, of course, but I think her view is shared by most Frenchmen.

It is. I spent some time in Montpellier a few years back. The French really disliked the muslim immigrants. Of course they were dumb enough to let a crowd of people bent on their destruction into the country in the first place.

Ya know, reading all this reminds of a story where a small Texas town was beset by a riotous mob and the local sheriff basically folded.

The town elders, not knowing what else to do, sent for for the Texas Rangers for help that was immediately promised to arrive on the next available train.

When the train pulled into the station, the town fathers were appalled to see only one ranger step off. "only one?", they asked.

He responded, "You only have one riot, right?"

From what I've seen that "operational mindset" is missing in the French. They say they've called up more than 1300 riot police. If the rest are any like the bunch I've seen on video, they are in sad shape. The ones I saw looked disorganized, confused, and worst of all scared reading their body language.. That shows poor training.

Many of them also blame the tough-talking interior minister, Nicolas Sarkozy, for making matters worse. He has described the rioters as "scum" and threatened to "hose down" the estates to get rid of them.

After that we'll flap white flags at them until the noise becomes so annoying that they all go home. And finally, if that doesn't work, no pudding tomorrow night for dessert!!!

No France has NOT surrendered yet. France has yet to begin to fight.

In fact that is the French victory strategy: If they don't start fighting, they don't have to surrender, but can just quietly die.
