Badly outspent seven years ago when they tried to curtail union money in state politics, supporters of "paycheck protection" are getting thrashed once more when it comes to the fundraising and spending wars.
The public employee union-driven No on 75 campaign had banked $42.6 million and spent $41.2 million by Oct. 22, according to the most recent reports. The Yes on 75 side, meanwhile, raised only $2.3 million and spent $1.6 million.
Proposition 75, however, has received a significant boost from Gov. Arnold Schwar-zenegger's California Recovery Team. According to its reports filed with the secretary of state's office, the governor's campaign committee has spent $6.1 million on the Proposition 75 campaign.
The California Republican Party, meanwhile, on Friday contributed $1 million to the Yes on 75 forces, almost doubling the amount of cash they had on hand heading into the final week of the campaign.
Proponents and opponents of the union dues measure have criticized each other heavily over the funding of their rivals' campaigns. But Bob Stern, president of the Los Angeles-based Center for Governmental Studies, said he has seen no disparity in the competing sides' ability to get their messages out, at least in the Los Angeles market.
"The bottom line is, the voters are getting a 'yes' and 'no' campaign on 75, unlike 78 and 79, where they are only getting one side," Stern said, comparing the give-and-take in TV ads in the union dues measure to the two prescription drug television campaigns, in which drug companies have raised $80 million and spent just about all of it while their opponents have raised less than a half-million.
Proposition 75 would require public employee unions to obtain the annual written consent of their individual members before spending any of the cash on politics.

KFBK News says Arnold will lose on all his propositions...any locals want to confirm those sentiments?
So far, all the recent polls have shown that either most of Arnold's proposition are leading (including Prop. 75 which has NEVER trailed in even the most 'bias' polls), or are within striking distance of passing (especially Prop. 76 which most polls still have trailing).
As of right now, it all comes down to turnout.
Then again, the recent Field Poll shows that all the initiatives are failing. Again though, depends on turnout (if the more liberal voters vote, then they will go down in defeat).
Wasn't it the Field Poll that said that the recall would fail and that, if it did somehow work, the Bustamante would win in a walk?

That's too bad. The only reason I am concerned is I own a home in Redding although I currently live in Alaska. I will be coming back to California in 18 months and I'd love to see some reform.
If not, I hope to get out of the state as soon as I can.
Yeah, same here. Though the Field Poll assumes that we have a large turnout. And said turnout is for the No side.
As for the reliablity of the Field Poll, well, it was true that they were showing the recall failing and Bustamonte winning. However, supposively, in the week before the recall, they showed Arnold winning and the recall winning. But, whether that was bandwagon or not (since it was clear that he was going to win), I do not know.
The Cal GOP are useless. There is never a strong effort from the Right in California elections any more. Might as well give up from the get go.

It's hard to say, but I'm cautiously optimistic. I think it all depends on the turn out. A low turnout traditionally favors the conservative side, and I know that a lot of us union members, while we support being in a union, are really repulsed by the way the unions take our money to support all these leftist candidates & causes.
Even if the initiatives lose, it's still a big step forward that they even got on the ballot in the first place.
And if you get Prop 75 passed, you can always try again. ;-)
