I guess it doesn't have any bearing on what he's written, but it's interesting.
I'm a subscriber. I think the Times is going through a very slow, probably very painful (for them), transition to a offering a little more balance on the editorial and news side. Some sections, like the Book Review and Calendar, are still filled with left wing bias.
"Great idea for ALL THE LIBS in Congress. They all need a serious ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT when it comes to America, our freedoms, and what it is like to commit treason."
If they went to those countries, they should have to live with the people who are under the heels of the dictators the liberals love. They would have sleep in their shacks and share their rotten and meager food.
I expect they have to do it slowly, or they would risk losing all their liberal subscribers, too. That's one reason they got into this fix--following the liberal trend right out to the end of the limb they were sitting on.
"Treason is as treason does."
30 (or so) years ago the LA Times was conservative.
How did this end up in LA Times? Is Gelernter a hacker?
Spectacular reading!
The Killing Fields followed by the installation of Mr. Peanut as Prez was the high water mark of the Liberal Golden Age. A few years later, it all came tumbling down on top of them.
Not only are Leahy's comments sheer, arrogant treason and demagoguery, they are flat out lies. We could win the insurgency with no problem except for the conditions that the leftists impose. If they would stop demanding protection for the terrorists and would allow the US to conduct a "scorched earth" policy in selected areas, the "insurgency" wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately, there's probably a "rare" bug, fly or vermin in Iraq (aside from terrorists) that the leftists want protected.
"Otherwise, Leahy said, he will urge the Senate to choke off the war by refusing to fund it."
It is unbelievable that a U.S. Senator with any education and sense of history would say such a thing. To make it sound like such a course of action is not only acceptable but something he would promote is traitorous to the men and women who have born the burden.
If such a thing were to happen it would lead to unbelievable consequences."
Actually, this is exactly the strategy that the Dem controlled Senate pulled in the latter months of Vietnam as their dispute with LBJ over various policies grew more bitter. The consequences for the troops then are the same as they are today - more men will die while the armchair quarterbacks in Washington play these deadly political games.
Great article ping...
Thank you very much for pinging me to this article.
WCC -- Thanks for posting it.
Gelertner sure hits the nail on the head.
Thanks for the ping!
This is a "MUST READ" article for everyone.
Galernter dares to say the painful truth, most people would rather ignor.
"Leahy's words lighted up a deep, dark secret that this nation would rather forget. Defeat in Vietnam was a catastrophe for the U.S., a body-slam to the nation's self-confidence. It was far worse for Southeast Asians, who were exiled, imprisoned, tortured and murdered by their vicious communist conquerors. But for left-wing Democrats it was a triumph. Forcing the mighty U.S. military to run away was the greatest victory they have ever known. That triumph broke a levee that sent a flood of left-wing ideas pounding across the U.S. landscape. "
We and the Iraqi's are winning ~ the bad guys are losing ~ millions of Iraqi's turned out and voted successfully for a Constitutional Referendum!
Iraqi voters have ratified a new constitution by a margin of nearly 4 to 1!
Trolls, terrorists, democrat moonbat's, suicide bombers, and the mainstream media are sad ~ very sad!
Let The Good Times Roll!
There are about 25 senators for whom I would not shed a single tear if they all died in a firey plane crash.
Astounding coming from the Leftists mouthpiece on the Leftist Coast.....
The first major sign that the control of the Left has been weakened out here....The referendum vote on Nov 8th could deliver another blow to their control....
I thought this was an excellent article and am sending it as encouragement (LA TIMES!) to an Army Platoon Sergeant in Iraq who is training Iraqi Security Forces. I hadn't heard of the author before, so I looked up his bio. Here it is: http://www.g4tv.com/techtvvault/features/31289/David_Gelernters_Age_of_Elegant_Machines.html
I wouldn't be surprised if "unabomber" experience has had some affect on his outlook on life.
