Successor to the late Yusef Bey killed in an assassination-style shooting, police say
OAKLAND — A son of controversial Black Muslim leader Yusef Bey was shot and killed Tuesday night while pumping gas at a North Oakland station.
Antar Bey, 24, was at the gas station at 55th Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way just after 7:30 p.m. when he was shot as he waited to fill up his black BMW 745, police said.
Police said Antar Bey, the appointed successor to the late Yusef Bey, had stepped away from the car and was talking on his cell phone when he was shot. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.
Shots had been fired at Antar Bey at least twice during the past several weeks, but he was not injured, authorities said.
Police believe Tuesday's incident was an assassination-style shooting, unrelated to a carjacking.
As police cleaned blood off the gas station pavement, the victim's car,with vanity plates reading "DR BEY," was still at the pump, where the tab had hit $60.
Two other members of the Bey family have been the targets of violence since
Yusef Bey died of cancer in 2003.
The badly decomposed bodyof Waajid Aljawaad Bey, 51, president and chief executive officer of Your Black Muslim Bakery, was found buried in a shallow grave in the Oakland hills in July 2004.
Police called the death a homicide.
And John Bey, the adopted son of Yusef Bey, was seriously wounded this past June when a gunman ambushed him while he was leaving his Montclair area home.
John Bey was a senior manager with Universal Distributors Security, one of several companies run by local Black Muslims.
Members of the Black Muslim organization — a network of housing, a school and storefront retail businesses — have said they believe a power struggle for control of the Bey empire has been brewing since Yusef Bey's death.

This really says it all for thge San Francisco Police Department. A 24 year old steps away from his BMW 745 and is shot. The police, with no obvious sense of irony, proclaim that he was the chosen successor to his father, who is nothing but head of a criminal enterprise.

Sounds like an internal power struggle and big time greed played a part in the killing. If I have any advice for the police, I'd tell them to go after the organization members.

There is so much material in this story, I don't know where to start. From the young kid with enough money to purchase an outrageously expensive sedan to the Your Black Muslim Bakery, and on from there. What a saga...

Your geography is a bit off - the SF line starts half way across the Bay Bridge - about 8 miles from this gas station. Oakland PD has the jurisdiction.

Well, it is just too important to pass up. I cannot emphasize enough that talking on a cell phone while pumping gas is dangerous.
I have seen quite a few stories on this, and it just keeps happening. People are dying while talking on the cell phone while pumping gas.
When will the madness stop. Please stop using your phone while Pumping Gas. You could die while using it.
